Hi everyone , just wanted abit Of info about IVF treatment. I had my lap back in July but still haven’t fallen pregnant naturally . What would be my next steps to go down this route . What can I expect ? Is there a waiting list for IVF ? How does it all work ? Also will I have to inject my tummy with hormones and stuff ? Sorry for all the questions but think this is going to have to be the next route for me and my husband . Thanks !
Does anyone have any Info on IVF? Thanks - Endometriosis UK
Does anyone have any Info on IVF? Thanks
Hi sophi
My husband and I tried for a baby for 5 years and in the end we had to have ivf we are fortunate that we could afford to go private so I couldn’t tell you on waiting times etc but I can tell you about having the injections, yes you do need to inject in to your tummy we had to do it every night at the same time for 2 weeks then on the third week we had to do two injections at the same time every night for a week my husband did mine and my tummy was black and blue but you get used to it after the fist few times. We then had appointments to see how my ovaries where doing and to see how many follicles I had then it was a case of seeing if any of the follicles had produced any eggs. It’s does take its toll and you have your ups and downs.
We were very lucky as we did manage to get pregnant on our first round and we now have a beautiful 6 year old daughter. We were not so lucky on our next round as I miscarried at 10 weeks. It can be a long road that can be exhausting sometimes but it can also be very rewarding!! I hope this helps with some of your questions.
Wishing you lots of luck on your journey to happiness!!

Hi Sophiii,
Im at the start of the injections. I went to the GP and he sent us for some tests. I had to do a hormon test and hubby the semen. After that he sent us the options for the hospitals to choose from. The fertility clinic do some further tests to see how is the egg reserve in the ovaries and we had to repeat the semen test for hubby which was not perfect first. This time was perfect as he quit smoking and started vitamins. If the tests are back the hospital send the request to NHS for the funding. For us it took almost 3 months but in the end had to make them chase it up. They say the BMI index was missing. Ridiculous but lets not get there.
When funding is approved things speed up. Till now the journey was around a year.
So had consultation with doctor and nurse. Im doing a long protocol cause of endo. I get 2 Prostap injection in 2 moths to suppress hormones and not to trigger endo. 2 weeks after the second Prostap i will start the daily at home. How many days depends on body response.
I am currently due for second Prostap tomorrow. As if now i have no sideffects, only had some days of bleeding in the middle but stopped. In a week i will go for the baseline scan.
I dont know if every area is the same or bot but Merton funds 1 full and 1 frozen cycle.
I hope it helps. All the best for you.
Hi Sophii, I like you have had surgery for endo but when trying to start a family nothing happened. First step (via NHS) was seeing the gp, where they'll ask things like how long you been trying for, and possibly about your hormones. Then will come some tests, blood tests and examinations, and a semen test for your partner. After that (dependent on the results) they can refer you for IVF. We didnt have to wait very long before we saw someone at the IVF clinic and then things really take off. Yes, you, or someone close to you will have to do your injections, but they will go through how to do it, when, and help you with any worries. Im not going to deny its a lot to go through. It can be unbelievably emotional at times and there are no guarantees. We were extremely lucky in that I know have a 2 year old little boy, but he was the 3rd pregnancy with IVF - I lost the first 2 pretty early on. It can work when youve had severe endo, but its a hard road to go down. Shout me if you want more info or to talk about it!
