Has anyone had laparoscopic surgery when the bowel and rectum are involved? I need to find a top clinic who deals with this as I am not keen on an open procedure

Hi I had a bit done on my bowel, but not much. so perhaps other women could help experience wise.

I do know though that before my operation even though a laparoscopy was planned, they do say that if they need to access more (my endo was round the back of my bowel) they may need to do a lapartomy, and if they need to do a resection (cut out a part of the bowel because endo has perforated) I'll need a bag. Yes this did scare me and they do have to discuss the additional things with you. I signed for it because I wanted to have my endo removed before it made stuff worse. You don't need to sign for those however if it means you need them which they find out during your lap then they'll just stop the procedure and that's it.

All consultants should be using laparoscopies as standard now, so you shouldn't need to worry. You could register at a BSGE center:

bsge.org.uk/centre/

These deal with complex endo involving other organs including the bowel, so will be up to date with procedures. Mine was private and my consultant followed the BSGE process.

Here's the guidelines all NHS specialists should follow:

Are you already in a tertiary BSGE centre as it is a UK requirement for rectovaginal endo.
