Referral to BSGE Centre Query

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help with my query please. I have endo surgery booked in for end of March with my Gyny who I've been with the last few years. This is privately as I had absolutely no help from my GP at all with referrals on NHS and hadn't really got my head around guidelines etc. I've now moved to a new Dr's surgery and was wondering when I meet with my new Dr can I still ask for a referral to a BSGE centre on NHS despite having surgery booked in privately?

I've got confirmed Stage IV diagnosis and was wondering if I can still have access to a centre going forwards to see a physio, pain management etc. It's likely I'll need more Surgery in the future and whilst I'm happy with my Gyny I can't keep going privately. I don't know if this is something I would be entitled to and I can ask this now or will I have to wait until I need another lap in the future and then start the referral process then?

Just to add I've never had a referral to an endo specialist through NHS despite Stage 4 diagnosis in Apr 2017.

Hope this all makes sense as been up all night in a flare!

Thank you.

Vix x

If the consultant you see privately works on the NHS, and you’re happy, talk to them about going on their list. They can do this with no issues.

Thank you. Unfortunately my Consultant is private only as I had thought of that. He used to do both but not since I've been going to him sadly!

That’s a shame. Have a look at the local NHS and you can search who does private as well. Look to see if registered with the BSGE, mine wasn’t, but experience counts for me.

Going by the forum, definitely need someone experienced though and nice.

The GP shouldn’t take any notice that you’ve seen someone privately. You could ask for the notes from your current consultant, they can’t charge for this, and you have evidence for GP. Hopefully the new one is helpful. I’d bring it up sooner rather than later.

I did research before going ahead, at the time I was only planning on one consultation, then one thing leads to another 😆

Good luck, not easy
