A diagnosis after 15 years

Hi all

I had an appt this morning following a transvaginal ultrasound. I wasnt able to withstand the full ultrasound due to pain so they didnt see my left ovary but found 2 very large cysts and 2 endometriomas on my right ovary. The GP I saw specialises in this area and so she said she feels it is definitely endo.

Shes put me on a new pill to take without break, she said she isn't sure the coil will be good for me. Shes referred me to my local hospital to gynae for them to decide on next steps and I can see my local hospital are an endo specialist centre.

I guess I just wanted to write it down. I cant believe this has happened after 15 years, but I'm distraught as I'm 29 and myself and my partner were hoping to start a family soon. I'm now really scared and upset about the implications that may be associated with this. Is it normal to pick this up on the ultrasound or does that suggest it's bad? She suspects there will be more to be found.

Thanks all

X

Endometriomas will show easily on ultrasound but they do often indicate deep endo elsewhere which usually would only show if an expert in gynaecological imaging is carrying out the scan.

Please note that hospitals aren't endo centres, some have endo centres which are tertiary care for special cases. You are likely to have been referred to general gynaecology in secondary care but must still only be seen by someone with a special interest in endo. You would be seen straight off in the endo centre if there is evidence of deep disease, such as if your GP did an internal exam and felt deep 'nodules' or if it had shown on the scan.
