Doctor doesn’t need to see me?

Hi

I’ve been seeing my GP since May due to some issues such as bleeding after sex & pelvic pain.

Brief background- I’m 46 and was until July on the pill.off the pill I’ve always had horrific periods severe pain, vomiting, flooding & cystic acne so I went on the pill at 16 and have pretty much remained on it, it worked very well. I’ve also had 2 successful pregnancies. I have Hashimotos (maybe relevant)?

I had some tests and they showed my FSH was sky high and so I was told I was menopausal and to stop the pill and let my body do what it needed to! I did in July and had one period quite quickly and then didn’t have another till October and haven’t had one since. I have however had lots of pain and I’m breaking out in spots - at 46 this is devastating.

Doctor referred me for an ultrasound and result show several small fibroids & a retroverted uterus- both of these don’t seem a cause for concern, ( although the uterus thing answers a lot of questions)!

However it also says both of my ovaries are adhered to my uterus. But my doctor has the review the scan and said he doesn’t need to see me again?

Is that true? Is it normal for ovaries to be attached to uterus? If it is then ok but searching suggests otherwise.

Thanks for reading, all advice welcome x

I think doctor has recommended this because you are going through menopause and not planning to have children they can unstick it but if you are not having symptoms they may just leave it.it sounds like endometriosis because no it’s not normal and could explain your symptoms if you do want to sort this out you would need to seek an endometriosis specialist as general gynaecologist don’t usually know what to do but it would be your decision and do know it could happen again

Thanks. I don’t want surgery or anything because as you say I’m not planning on children.

I’m unconvinced about the menopause although my absence of periods suggest I am in denial! I have been offered no support or advice beyond google ( honestly I was told to google advice).. my scan showed a 24mm corpus luteum which is believe suggest ovulation?

it would be nice for the doctor to have a conversation with me, I only know because I called for the results and the receptionist said the doctor doesn’t need to see you!

It does sound like you are menopausal but I could be wrong you might ovulate some times and not others as menopause is like a gradual loss of fertility type of thing hence why people have hot flushes etc it’s like the body calming down .im so sorry the doc didn’t give you a follow up you could put a complaint in if you are worried about your treatment and he may be better with other people’s treatment I wouldn’t take it too much to heart I’ve had to follow up a lot lately due to having a misscarrige and I’m still waiting for paperwork I’ve had to ring the consultants secretary the nhs are so over run and not enough staff it’s the same with my g.p I’m always ringing to follow up results

It sounds like you could have Endo if your ovaries are stuck. I was menopausal and didn’t think Endo would carry on growing but when I had my hysterectomy, with no periods due to progesterone only pill I found out my bowel was stuck. I’d go back to your GP and request a gynaecologist appointment with an Endo specialist xxx

Hi, two years ago in October during my first endo surgery my gyno found that both my ovaries were attached to the back of my whom and she didn’t want to ‘unstick’ them because of my age, however I had an ultrasound this May it appeared as though they were back in a ‘normal’ position and had appeared to unattached themselves, although I was on the pill during this time my gyno suggested that it is common for them to unattatch themselves x

No, it's not normal. I suggest you ask your doctor to refer you to an endometriosis specialist. It has to be a renowned excision BSGE-certified specialist.

I have a retroverted uterus and ovaries attached to my uterus and I have stage 2 endometriosis.

In the meantime drink a lot, keep your diet very very clean (lots of fish, veggies, fruit. nuts, wholegrains, pasture raised eggs and no dairy, cured meats, fried and processed foods and refined carbs, including pizza, pasta, bread, desserts and so on). Walk, swim or do yoga (find a way to move, preferably outdoors!) and sleep a lot.

Maybe get your TSH, T3 and T4 checked out again in a few months. I have Hashimoto's and get them checked every 4 months via blood work

When we reach a certain age, doctors appear to think that the menopause will solve all issues, whereas Its the complete opposite! You need to fight and demand treatment, otherwise they will fob you off! My GP told me in May that as I was close to the menopause, there was nothing to be done. First, he never mentioned once the word perimenopause in 7 years of repeated severe symptoms and secondly he doesn't know how close or how far I am to the menopause! I find their words and their attitude nasty and beyond awful. Dr Google is my medical expert and support sites like this one where kindness exist. Don't let the GPs fob you off, you are entitled to treatment as per the NICE Guidelines to which you may want to refer to when talking to them. Good luck.

Hi thanks for all the comments/advice.

I called the surgery back and asked if a doctor could call me and at least explain why there was no follow up. They called and said if I want to discuss I should make a routine appointment soon have but the first one is December 17th!

I don’t want anything other than some advice to help me manage the fact that I'm in pain a lot of the time as though I’m getting my period but it never arrives! I’m tempted to just take the pill again.

I feel quite let down.
