I had my first (3 monthly) injection last Friday. I asked the nurse about side effects etc and she said within a couple of days. So far all I've had is a bit of a muggy head and bit extra tiredness (which could just be coincidental as had a rough week at work).
How long after injection did it take for your side effects to appear?
Thanks

When you first have the injection there is a 'flare effect' when oestrogen increases due to the receptors on the pituitary being bombarded. You might get worse endo symptoms during this stage. Then after typically 3 weeks or so the menopause symptoms would kick in but should be alleviated with add back HRT.
I had the monthly injection but I had no side effects, or any sign it was doing anything at all, for the first 3 weeks. It definitely took a while to have an effect. I also had periods on Prostap in the first 2 months, although my gynaecologist had told me it would stop them straight away, so that was a surprise!
As Lindle said, there is a brief period where the endo symptoms may get worse before they get better. The worst side effect I had was irritability, even with HRT. I was just very crabby and not great to be around for a couple of months, and then it settled down and my mood was great.
Thanks for your reply. I'm irritable at the best of times so God help me when it kicks in! I've had an ablation so have very minimal periods, just hope it helps the pain.
I was wondering the same thing I had my first monthly injection of a 6 month course of prostap yesterday and so far I’ve just got a sore arm from the injection
