Should I take birth control?

Hi, I was diagnosed with endometriosis two and a half weeks ago. Up until then I was on Sprintec for a little over a year while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with me. My doctor switched me to Yas because of the side effects of Sprintec. But I've been doing some research on the subject and I am wondering if birth control is really necessary? My doctor thinks it is but I'm worried about blood clots and strokes. I have migraines, am overweight and smoke. All of which increase the risk. My doctor thinks because I'm only 26 that it's worth taking it to suppress the Endo despite the increased risk. I'm not so sure. Anybody have any advice?

Hi,

If you get migraines and are overweight (same as me) you shouldn't go on the combined pill as it increases risk of stroke etc but you can go on the mini pill instead which does not contain estrogen so does not increase those risks. I'm on desogestrel mini pill and it helps a lot with my symptoms, maybe ask your doctor about that or about using the mirena coil if it would suit you better xx

Thanks Violet159 I will definitely ask my doctor about the mini pill. He has already said the coil, ring or implant chip would be best for me. But I refuse to have something put inside me. I have a phobia of docs and hospitals and the idea of being implanted freaks me out to much. But maybe he will agree to the mini pill. Thank you so much for the advice.😁
