Nexplanon - need some reassurance

I saw my endo specialist last week who said as my endo was successfully removed, the pain I’m experiencing must be due to adenomyosis and the best treatment is the injection or the implant.

After learning about the injection side effects, I opted for the Nexplanon injection which I got today.

I’ve been on marvelon combined pill for years so I’m well over the side effects, the only issue I have with it is that I could only stop my period for 9 weeks at a time and then I would have horrific pain the week afterwards.

I’m reading online about people’s experiences of Nexplanon and it sounds awful and I’m so worried I’ve made an awful mistake. Please share some positive experiences to put my mind at ease!!!

I'm currently on my second nexplanon implant, and I love it! Everyone is different and you won't know how you'll react until you try it, for example, my Mum has had one for at least five years now and she doesn't bleed at all; my friend had it for one year and bled continuously until it was removed.

In my experience, the first one was perfect. I had a bleed about every two months, they were a bit more painful than when I was on the pill, but not unmanageable. However, with my suspected endometriosis (obviously, since I'm on here haha), I now am just completely irregular, but I dread to think that my natural periods would be like without it.

In terms of contraception it's a LARC (long-acting reliable contraceptive), so it's really effective. You don't have to remember to do anything except get it changed every three years, so it's great if you're a little forgetful like me!

I honestly can't sing it's praises enough, I love it! But I do know that it isn't for everyone, so I hope it works for you!x

Thank you! I know people are much more likely to post about bad experiences than good but I got into a bit of a hole last night!! I’ve been on marvelon for 10 years so hoping halving the hormones will actually be better for me!
