Fed up!

I hope someone can advise me! I've had the agonising abdo pain and all other endo symptoms for 18 months now along with having severe periods ever since I was 12. I’m only 20 years old & I am so beyond fed up. I’ve had multiple hospital admissions where they thought it was appendicitis because of how much agony I was in. My gynae consultant has discharged me after a diagnostic laparoscopy showed nothing apparently. Been told so many different diagnoses from the typical ibs to a twisted ovary. Waiting on a gastro referral but I’m so adamant it isn’t gastro (as I’ve worked in gastro for 3years). Not been able to return to work for more than a month at a time because I have a flare up in that time which leaves me in the foetal position & in Ed again! A severe depression diagnosis caused by all this stress hasn’t helped either. Sorry for the rant, I feel like I needed that. I’m just at a loose end & hope someone else has experienced something like this & can give me hope.

Hey love, my first laparoscopy showed nothing conclusive. That was about 5.5 years ago at age 24. They said my ovary was stuck to my womb but couldn't determine why during keyhole. I was in and out in about 45 minutes.

After my symptoms worsening over the following 5 years, I had a second lap which was able to free my ovary (stuck to my pelvic wall, not my womb but not sure if it moved or the first diagnosis was wrong), remove endo from my bladder and give me a proper diagnosis.

I have been on the pill since I was 15 and I think this has helped prevent too much damage, but as I had my second lap the week my period ended, they were able to see the old blood that was sitting in my pelvis (retrograde mensuration) causing a great deal of pain. I don't know whether this would be visible at all times of the cycle but I am grateful for the timing of my lap.

Your periods are not supposed to cause you severe discomfort! If you're not happy with your doctor then you are well within your right to ask for a second opinion.

Best of luck x
