Hi everyone,

Does anyone here have private medical insurance (personal NOT corporate)

Can anyone recommend an insurer who will accept pre-existing medical conditions please?

I'd be interested to know how much you pay aswell if you don't mind sharing?

Thank you in advance x

I’d love to know this too if anyone has found someone who will cover pre existing conditions! When I have looked online myself before I’ve given up shortly after as doesn’t seem possible x

Hi. You should contact the insurers directly and ask them. They usually have a waiting period for pre-existing 2, 6 or 12 months. After this period ends you are able to claim (this is usually worth it measured against nhs waiting times). I’m covered with Bupa under work and it covers my whole family, so the cost won’t be comparative.

The cover has been amazing. I had multiple surgeries/scans/tests within weeks or days with my chosen surgeon. They also covered physio appointments to recover from surgery. You get your own room in hospital and stay for a couple of days after laps etc to allow you to recover.

Insurers will quote for you quite quickly and it is worth being quite honest about any information and formal diagnosis your GP has listed for you.

Hopefully this helps you. Good luck.

I just checked directly with Bupa and they will not cover pre existing conditions where any treatment or symptoms have been experienced in the preceding 7 years. Did you maybe have insurance with them before you were diagnosed?

I'm looking for when I will leave my company, as I'll probably have to pay on my own. According to most insurers a pre-existing condition when I've looked up endo is if you've had no medical treatment / consultations related to the condition for two years, up to five in some cases. So I'm hoping I can hold out that long. I think GP appointments / check ups are fine but if it's any operations / hormones / painkillers etc then that's considered ongoing.

I think the best thing to do is search online - I've been reading up on the money.co.uk / health-insurance info page.
