Endometriosis and hrt

Hello ladies, I just want to share my experience.

I had total hysterectomy over 24years ago due to severe endometriosis stage 4. It did not cure me. I have lived with all the symptoms of Endo after having hysterectomy. I even get period pains. My drs are no help at all. I decided enough was enough and saw a specialist private this week. What a revelation that’s was. I was on Premarin for 20years or so as I was 32 at the time and would go straight into menopause. The specialist told me that they never give oestrogen to someone who has stage 4 severe endo as all it does is feed it. He has put me on livial(progesterone) in the hope it will starve the endo. I really hope this will help. Otherwise I will face excision in a BSGE centre next year. At least I will be seen by an expert and a multi disciplinary team with him. This will be done on the nhs as it’s stage 4. So the moral of this tale is don’t put up with clueless drs who know nothing about endo. There is help out there. Never doubt yourself either. I even questioned my own sanity at times. Keep on fighting we know our own bodies. Hysterectomy does not get rid of endometriosis. Hope you all have a reasonable day.

Hi Gwen, I also had a hysterectomy 18 years ago and didn’t relieve my pain at all then a year later had both ovaries removed and still the same pain level. I am also on Livial it does help some what but still get “period pain” around that time of the month. I worry about these young women with endo that are only at the start of their endo journey as I’m sad to say that a lot of doctors (gynos male mostly) lead you to getting these huge operations that are supposedly going to “fix” you but in my case anyway really didn’t . I’m in Australia so I’m not sure if it differs in the UK but really do your research and best to get referred to by someone that has be treated by the doctor, as I now find it so hard to trust any doctor as they don’t really see you as an individual it’s one fit for all. Hope this just helps someone out there, have a good day ladies.
