Is it hereditary?

Hello lovely ladies,

So I was wondering, if I have endometriosis is it possible that if I had a daughter in the future, will she suffer from endometriosis as well?

Thanks in advance xx

I don’t think the genetic link is strong enough to say that she will suffer from endometriosis but having a mother with endometriosis does increase the risk of the daughter also having endometriosis.

I see. Thank you Aphra for your reply. xx

Hi Sam,

I know there is genetic connections but not sure how clear/string they are. Having said this, I found out through my dad that his mum, my auntie and my female cousin, have all had similar gynae related issues but never diagnosed with Endometriosis. You’re bound to have loads of health concerns when you have your own, but don’t let it overflow so much.

Hi Hannah,

Actually I was overthinking about it the last few days, like if I had a daughter I don't want her to go through the pain I am having.

Thank you so much for your reply and I will do my best to stay positive and hope for the best. xx ♡

I was diagnosed with endometriosis after having my daughter, nobody in my family has endometriosis but me and I have a lot of aunties, female cousins, sisters and of course a mother! Nobody but me had painful periods (although a few aunties had heavy periods) but I am never heavy. I worry that my daughter has inherited this vile illness from me and it breaks my heart to think she may face a lifetime of medical treatment like me!

Hi Princesspeach,

I'm sorry that you were diagnosed with endo..I know how you feel and it is really hard to think about it.

I really hope and pray that your daughter will be fine and won't have it, and you feel better soon. xx

Crossing my fingers for you 🤞🤞💛

Hi Sam. There is some suggestion that it is hereditary, however, if your daughter did have it, then you would be prepared and have the knowledge to get her treated quickly. My diagnosis took 9 years, my daughter’s was 6 months, which meant that by the time she was taking her GCSE’s, we were in control of it.

You can’t be hard on yourself as a parent what genetics you’re passing on because I’m sure that there will be ones that can be celebrated too! Be kind to yourself and try not to worry or over think it.

Blessings, Elise. X

Within my family there does seem to be some form of genetic link as there is such a strong family history... my mum, both her sisters, my grandma, my great grandma, I believe my cousins are having issues and I am also having issues. I think I didn’t really stand a chance, but knowing what they have been through and knowing that genetic link prepared me to go and fight my corner

Hi Vicky,

Wow, it really looks like there is a genetic link.

Thanks for your reply and I wish you all the best and strength.

Hi Rose,

Thank you for reply and the feedback, much appreciated.

And you're right, if my daughter got the symptoms, she would be helped much quicker.

Best wishes xxx
