Can Endometriosis be hereditary

A question, has any of you ladies know of other family members that have or had Endometriosis?

I believe my mother had it but not sure just remember as a child her in pain with her back. I myself noticed my only daughter have very similar symptoms as mine so managed to get her checked and a laparoscopy done. It was confirmed she had Endometriosis

Yes, having a first degree relative increases the chances.

Your chances of having endometriosis increase if you have a close female relative with it. For example a mother or sister. My aunt had endo and so do I. Not sure if that's coincidence or not. But possibly connected. X X X

Another one here with an aunt with an endo diagnosis. (Possibly two aunts, the other sister never had a diagnosis but did have uninvestigated infertility.) I suspect my sister has it as well. xx

My mum has adenomyosis and I have suspected endometriosis. My nan used to have similar pains but she had her uterus removed.

Hiya, contrary to the other replies no one in my family has a history or currently has any gynaecological issues (inc endo). However, I have endometriosis which I’ve had 4 surgeries for and chronic cystitis x

It does seem it can be handed down, but not always diagnosed or recognised as endometriosis especially going back generations when women just put up with the pain

It seems when we ask we find others in the family have it that we never knew had

My mum and her sister both have endo.

There seems to be researching showing that. Probably not true for everyone, but it does worry me about my daughter (no other female on my family has ever had a diagnosis. But they are the type that just get on with pain and rarely see a doc so 🤷🏼‍♀️)

I recently asked my GP this as I, my sister and a number of my aunts have endo and he said people often thinks it's hereditary or genetic but in fact it's such a common disease that affects so many women we all just know a lot of people with it.
