I have recently been referred to the hospital for an ultrasound as I have been experiencing pain in the right lower side of my tummy for a year. This pain has become much more consistent and sharper during the last three months. As well as this, I have bloating, a full up feeling, indigestion/gas sometimes, painful bowel movements, very painful and heavy periods. I’ve been on the pill since the age of 16 (now 23) as I had always suffered with painful and irregular periods. My auntie has endometriosis but I’m wondering if other people have similar symptoms to me as I’m not sure about the bloating/indigestion symptoms? I’m starting to worry about what else it could be.
Any responses would be appreciated!

I wouldn’t like to say what it could or couldn’t be as I’m not a medical professional. However, what I will say is that *if* it is endometriosis it is highly unlikely that anything will show up on the ultrasound. At the beginning of my diagnosis journey I had an ultrasound and was told nothing was wrong and was basically told to go away. I then paid to go private and had a laparoscopy and was diagnosed with stage 4 endo and then later adenomyosis and interstitial cystitis.
My advice therefore is to ask to be referred to a specialist NHS endometriosis Centre where the expertise is far greater to diagnose complex gynaecological conditions. Xxx
Hi Catness. Thankyou for your reply! Yeah I’ve heard a few people say that it’s unlikely to show up on an ultrasound and have then been turned away. Do you mind me asking what your symptoms were/are? Xx
Hello gosh it was around 10 years ago now and my symptoms have changed somewhat. I think my main ones were irregular bleeding and heavy periods with some bladder issues xxx
Hiya - I was diagnosed with endo at 22. One of my symptoms is bloating and abdominal pain. Best way to get a diagnosis is via a laproscopy, but they'll run through lots of other less invasive tests first to rule other things out. Good luck x
