Scar tissue/laparoscopy causing lower back pain??

Hi,

I have had 2 laparoscopy procedures to remove endometriosis and scar tissue/adhesions. Since my first one I have suffered with really bad lower back pain and still do now. I am starting to wonder if this is due to scar tissue from the procedures? I really don’t know what to do as the doctors fob me off and so did an NHS physio.

Just wondering if anyone has any help, tips or advice ? Thank you I’m advance x

Hi there.

Although it could be that which is causing your pain, have you considered that maybe it's postural? I have read and know with myself that because we suffer so much with pain in our abdomen and lower back that we start to hold ourselves differently over time to compensate for the pain. This in turn could mean it's causing you muscle or ligament pain somewhere else?

Maybe you could try consciously changing your posture and try gentle exercise to help with that, like aquafit or yoga.

Just an idea xxx

Hey there,

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it. Yes, that does make sense. As I noticed this change after my first lap just isn’t a year ago. I have had a second one last month. I have started to some yoga since my last lap which should hopefully help and trying to do a light jog. I did one last night but after half a mile my back gave in :-( xx

I would maybe recommend swimming as opposed to jogging, just because it's so high impact so is likely to be more uncomfortable. Also with swimming you can take it at a nice slow pace to begin to build up your strength and then push a little more each time to build up stamina.

I have found that even before endo was officially diagnosed I experienced bad back pain during and ever since my c-section. Again I feel like I lost a lot of back and core strength after from the pain from my healing tummy, and equally from leading such a sedentary lifestyle since spending most days in bed all day :( how did you recent lap go?

Xxx

Thank you vincentcat. Yes I agree jogging probably isn’t the best form of exercise but I get such a good feeling from doing cardio so I will see how I go and stick with regular yoga too.

Ah really? :-( so sorry to hear you are suffering! It is really hard to tell what the root cause of the back pain is as here are so many factors! My back hasn’t been the same to be honest since being pregnant and giving birth to my son.

It went well thank you. I had a lot more adhesions and scar tissue to last time. Especially on my pelvic wall. Which had my colon attached to it. And superficial endo on both ovaries and tubes. The surgeon removed it all but I do wonder if the procedures themselves cause/create scar tissue.

I am trying to follow an anti inflammatory diet as much as possible me now but it can be hard at times :-(

How are you managing pain etc at the moment??

Xx

I've have this to. It never really went after my first lap (which missed endometriosis) and is really bad after my recent excision. However I have endo on my US ligament there was lots of scar tissue so it's not surprising I guess. But also as vincentcat says our posture is bad when we have abdominal pain.

The most helpful physio I saw was also a pilates instructor and taught our class some principles from it (it was a back rehab class). I carried on with pilates because it seemed to help and its excellent for posture. Whenever my backs bad now I know that I must do some pilates to help stretch it out not skip the exercise as it's tempting to do. Could you look for a class near you? Especially if you can find one run by a physio. I'd 100% recommend it.

Hey there,

Thank you for your reply. This sounds great. I will look out for one in my area. I have started yoga and trying to slowly build my exercise and fitness up. I started a light jog last night and my lower back was really hurting. Do you think I should stick with it to gently build it up.? I never know if I am making my back better or worse x

I know it's difficult to know sometimes. I've never been someone who enjoyed jogging I'm afraid but I was doing aqua aerobics and considering trying Zumba but my GP advised against both of them. I never find I hurt after Pilates other than muscle aches. I used to cycle as well which was good for cardio fitness without stressing your joints. Unfortunately I don't have a bike at the moment but maybe I should think about getting one again...

Good morning JLOck,

I have had four different surgery's now and I have been experiencing pain in my lower back when I need the toilet. My gynecologist said that the scar tissue will be uncomfortable, so if you have developed some since your surgery you might well be right. However Vincencat might be right after my first surgery I held myself completely differently, had back pain for about a year and a half but I did get opened up rather than a lap.

Sorry to ask but are you trying to conceive or are you wanting to just reduce your pain?

HiHarrietC

Thank you very much for your reply.

Is you back pain better now? What did you do? I remember confirm accross a post on here about a natural supplement which can dissolve scar tissue.

I am wanting to reduce pain currently as it is preventing me exercising (which helps me mentally) and I get a dull ache every morning when my bladder is full.

I will be trying to conceive this year but want to give myself around 6 months after my recent Lap to focus on myself and health, diet, exercise, holistic therapies etc.

Thanks again x

Hi JL0ck.

Please check my posts. It might not be Endo, only Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.
