Hi, I’ve just been for my pre op. Having Lap next Wednesday. My consultant told me I’m having a large endometrioma removed from my left ovary & he will also remove my left ovary. I have bowel problems and therefore I’m being prepped for bowel treatment too during the Lap. Has anyone else had this treatment. What’s the recovery? I had a Lap 18 yrs a go but wondered whether having an ovary removed changes my recovery? Thanks all, so want some answers xxxxx
advice pls!!: Hi, I’ve just been for my pre... - Endometriosis UK
advice pls!!
Hi there - I had a similar op 3 weeks ago. I haven't had another lap, so can't compare. Endometrioma removed, along with ovary, both tubes, and a cyst from the other ovary; bowel shave, removal of endo elsewhere (frozen pelvis) including full thickness vaginal nodule. I was in theatre for 3 hours, and in hospital overnight (and could have stayed another night if I'd really wanted too).
I won't lie - the first few days were really painful, but you should feel a little better each day. Its important to keep on top of your pain medication, and not let it get too bad before you take the next lot. The gas pains can be bad as well - peppermint tea really helps, as well as getting up and about as frequently as possible (even if its just a walk round the room or up and down the corridor). I wouldn't plan on doing anything at all for the first 2 weeks afterwards if possible (and you won't be able to do anything for the first week) - you should be signed off work for at least that long. 3 weeks later and I'm back at work, walking around, and generally OK. Not back up to exercising yet though.
I hope it all goes well for you, and they manage to remove everything. x
