Mirena removal - hormone free! Any experiences?

Hi! I have been diagnosed with mild endometriosis and Adenoymyosis for about 5 years now, after trying multiple pills, oral hormones, the implant etc. since the age of 13, I was given the Mirena Coil back in 2015 and although not fantastic, it has been the 'best' of the bunch and I still had almost monthly periods albeit lighter and less symptomatic.

In 2017, I was given 6 months of Prostap and since have had bizarre irregular symptoms and random spotting but no proper period. This is driving me crazy! I dunno whether I am coming or going, I still have cyclical symptoms but don't bleed every month and the consultant told me I should be grateful for this ... and I would be if I wasn't still feeling crap plus it's making me feel like less of a woman?! Other than the 6 months in the menopause, I've still always had periods so not having them feels alien to me!!

So ... myself and my boyfriend are hoping that by this time next year we will be ready to try for a family, with this in mind plus the above, I think I have decided to get the coil removed now, give my body a year to get back into some sort of natural pattern for the first time in 10 years and see how my body is now I'm an adult etc.

Has anybody else decided to remove all the synthetic hormones from their body? How did you get on? Any tips for mirena removal? I'm a little bit scared but also feel excited at the thought of seeing how my moods are, how my body reacts and seeing if there is a noticeable change in how I feel!

Thanks

x

I dont know how it will affect you, but my periods were bad and irregular, im not on birth control or anything but ive been taking maca tablets for the last few years and they regulate my cycle, now my period come every 31 days and it much healthier. I swear by the stuff. Also get probiotics and all your suppliments ready. Magnesium is good for pain, and evening primrose oil is great too for when you are on your period. May help your cycle get back to normal without the coil.

I’d be really interested to hear how you get on. I’ve had a mirena since surgery in 2011... take gabapentin too and feel permanently exhausted. Tempted to stop everything and see what my symptoms are like now without hormones, drugs etc.
