Taking the combined pill after lap surgery?

Hi ladies, I hope you are well today 🌞.I've been advised to start taking the combined pill back to back? to help stop the endometrioma cysts coming back after the lap i had last week to remove them.

I had some endo the back of the uterus i think and i think some of the bowel was involved i am not quite sure. Also have a nodule on my utero sacral ligament. All this part was left though as they thought it wasn't worth messing around removing it when I don't get extreme symptoms. I was just quite concerned about the cysts growing bigger.

I am a bit reluctant to take synthetic hormones but I also obvs don't want cysts coming back and having to keep having surgery.

Has anyone had any positive stories of taking the combined pill after surgery to control endo?

Thank you for reading πŸ’œ

Hi Sam! You have the exact same diagnosis and treatment plan as me! The endo is on my uterus and bowel, stage 4. And they recommended the combined pill for me. It wasn't brilliantly pleasant at first - a lot of hormone fluctuations but i am very sensitive to progesterone. It has taken about three months for it to balance but it has been worth it! No more pain, bloating and discomfort, which is amazing. Its defo worth a shot, especially if it avoids future surgery. If you have any questions about the pill, i am happy to help out! :) xx

Hi Evalina93,

Thank you so much for replying to my post x

It's nice to hear a positive story on how it has helped you. Its something to consider. The specialist endo nurse told me thats what they recommend after surgery. I am going to speak to my GP too next week about my options and see what he says.

If i can keep endo at bay naturally with diet and other holistic therapies etc then that would be ideal for me but i am not going to rule out taking the pill.

Xx

Hi Sam - sadly i have never heard of being able to hold endo at bay with diet and holistic therapies because of the nature of it, but do let me know if anything diet wise does help any pain! With endo on the bowel, i do find that sometimes diet affects that bit.

Would defo recommend getting on the pill sooner rather than later as it can take a while to adjust to! xx

Thank you, i'm still unsure whether or not to take the pill. It's a difficult one as there are people out there who claim to have healed themselves without more 'conventional' methods. I have a book called Heal endometriosis naturally without painkillers, drugs or surgery. If the pill works though without any negative side effects then maybe i'd rather take it than not. Hmm πŸ˜•
