Bowel prep?

Has anyone done bowel prep recently for bowel endometriosis. Some doctors say you need it; some don’t. If you did any tips. I am diabetic as well so that may complicate things. My surgeon has asked me to do one sachet

I have used Moviprep twice. First time was a disaster I managed one glass it was awful. How anyone can drink 2 litres of the stuff I never knew.

Then before my hysterectomy and bowel surgery I had to take it again. But I was advised my lots of people even some on this group to use lenonade. It fizzes up a lot but omg what a difference. That and a straw. (I used 7up) I drank most of the two litres I left a little because I was so full.

It took a few hours into the night to do its magic and was worried I be still going come my time in hospital that morning. But it all was fine.

So I fed recommend 7 up (mine was cold) and a straw and do a large glass at a time and just keep gulping.

Good luck. X

I also found you put it in the fridge it’s better, and use a straw. You can add clear cordials too it as well if the fizz of lemonade is too much. Xx

I didn’t because my dr prefers anything to be “solid” but either way is normal. I would speak to someone about the diabetes, maybe your surgeons secretary or a pharmacist can advise.

If you do have to do it definitely buy baby wipes!

Will do. Many thanks😊😊

I have taken bowel prep many times. You need to be near the toilet all day and night. It says to mix with a certain amount of water which is quite a lot to drink, I don’t and I put all the sachet in and have it with maybe a cup full of diluting juice, put it in the fridge for a few hours so it’s chilled and I think it tastes better (it’s orange but it still makes you screw your face up when drinking it). I just can’t go drinking it in great volumes. Your stomach will gurgle and you may have some pain and not even go to the toilet for hours however when it starts, make sure you are near one as you can go several times.

Once finished it does give you a flat stomach and an empty feeling inside your stomach. Your poo will be very watery and you can be sore after going to the toilet so maybe wipe with tissue then with some moist wipes.

Hope that helps.

Anything else pm me if you need to chat x

You will be fine and the prep is nothing to worry about, all you are doing is clearing out your bowel to enable the surgeon to see it better. I always feel way better after it, the next day!!! x

Morning! Did the bowel prep Sunday and had op on Monday. There was going to be possible bowel removal amongst other things. I'm not going to lie, I found drinking the moviprep challenging. It's mind over matter. I watched some nice pixar films and tried to keep hydrated and distracted. I'd recommend following instructions but chilling the drink is a must. Mine really started to work when I increased my fluids in general.

Good luck, you've got this !!

Thank you so much. It’s nice not to feel alone about this😊😊

Mine is due soon and I have been given picolax and four senna tablets, along with a special diet for a week beforehand. I'm a bit worried about the morning of admission because the hospital is over an hour's drive away. Let's hope it's all out before then! Does this seem like a lot of bowel prep compared to you?

No from what I have read that is the more normal dosage. Mine is less I think because of age 65 and diabetes 2 plus thyroid problems etc. Good luck . I will be thinking of you and everyone going through this😊

Thank you. I think that is an option if they think the bowel prep insufficient. Appreciate your info. Thanks

Hi, would definitely recommend putting in the fridge and drinking with a straw. Had to do this myself last Thursday for surgery the next day.

I was given an enema in the morning while waiting for my op, they said that's all they needed as my endo was on my rectum and obviously had already fasted for 12 hours. That was bad enough, I couldn't hold on for longer than 10 mins!

Yes, my surgeon originally wanted me to take the Picolax in the morning about 7 (op at 2). I said I did not want to be pooping all the way to the hospital!! We compromised on 8pm tonight! Thanks for responding BTW. I have been touched by all the responses/help that I received. ☺☺

Me too - I will be thinking of you and sending good wishes (I am also terrified) but there are many brave ladies on here and I am trying to live up to their tradition. My op is tomorrow too so we will face it together.☺☺☺
