Any advice?

Hey ladies!

So I’m looking for some advice here :p

I’m 20, and my periods have always been a struggle ever since I was 15, pain killers only work for a short amount of time, I’ve been prescribed numerous pain kills and nothing seems to be working :(

I’ve been referred to have an ultrasound, nothing came up, and I recent had an appointment with a gynaecologist who also couldn’t see anything unusual. I’ve been out on the combined pill currently to stop my periods but I’m not sure what else to do?

I haven’t been given a diagnosis and in roughly 60 days I’m going to have another period, and it’s just going to keep going round! Anyone been in a similar situation?

I also kept hitting dead ends until I had my lap and even that I had to fight for. They tried saying I had IBS, so I stopped my depo injections to get worse to prove a point to them.

I kept a pain/period diary and that worked a treat to show them visually how much pain I was in and where patterns fall - this would be my biggest bit of advise and to keep going, listen to your body x

Sorry you are going through this, it sounds like the years of headache i have gone through! The main bit of advice i can give you is seriously push for a diagnosis now, it took me sitting in with my gp and refusing to leave until they took me seriously to then get a gyne who done the same as they did with you - stuck me on the pill i do back to back for 9 weeks then a week off which ok great helps for the 9 weeks but i regret not pushing for a lap (they said i was too young at the time i think i was about 17 i am now 23) and my pain has got so much worse i cant even control it with prescription painkillers anymore so honestly just fight and fight until they give you some proper help, if nothing else i am praying that they can give me some proper pain management help so maybe try pushing for that?

I hope you have more luck than i seem to be having!

That sounds so similar to me!

My gp originally said she’d refer me to ultrasound and then gyno, and if that comes up with nothing we’d look at keyhole.

I’ve done all that, and that’s done nothing yet there’s no talk of permenant solution! The pill seems great, but only for like 60 days, it’s not exactly a diognosis or permenant help.

But I’m not sure if I’m just being needy or something because this is better than being In pain every month. It’s just so complicated and no one seems to know what they’re doing.

Trust me you are not beeing needy! They shouldn't just stick us on the pill and basically tell us to get on with it. As you say it really is better than getting t every month but still the pain etc comes around eventually so we need an actual solution not a 'band aid'. I do agree no one I have seen seems to have a clue what is going on either which is so frustrating I feel like they just don't even care.

I hope you get taken more seriously soon and get some real help but don't feel like you are being needy by pushing for more help and advice because it is the doctors jobs to help us when we are in pain and discomfort not to brush us off because they don't seem to understand it

Good luck!

Hey, it took me a year of constantly seeing doctors and gynaes before I had my lap a few weeks ago. It’s such a battle and cost me £214 for a private consultation in order to have surgery.

Because of your age (I’m 19), gynaes try to leave surgery as a last resort after a bunch of hormone treatments have been tried but not helped.

I was diagnosed with endo and have to try the injection at my follow up in October.

Make sure your gynae is an endo specialist as they tend to listen more and know a lot more about endo compared to normal gynaes xx

Hello my love,

I was back and fourth from the doctors and A&E from the age of 14, nearly 6 years later I've only just been given the referral to a specialist to discuss Endo and the possibility of surgery. You need to be consistent and pushy! Don't give up until you are given the support and a deep investigation. The pain exists and you live through it, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, even if they are the professionals. I think I've seen 10 different doctors in the past 3 years of making the final push...
