Advice following ultrasound!

Hello! I just wanted to share my experience and ask if anyone else has had something similar! I’ve had painful periods since I was around 14, and I’m now 21. After many years of going to the doctor and being turned away, I was referred for an ultrasound last year. In October I had an internal ultrasound and they found my left ovary was stuck to the back of my uterus, and the sonographer also mentioned that it looked as if my bowel was also starting to stick to my uterus too. My symptoms have been getting worse, now accompanied with left leg pain, bowel symptoms, shooting pain and bleeding before periods. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I’m trying to work out how severe this seems to be before my appointment with a consultant next week so I can prepare myself a bit! Thank you so much! X

I had an operation 3 years ago because my bowel had fused to the vagina,I had to have bowel& vagina taken away to separate them😰but hopefully it won’t be anything as drastic for you🙏

Thank you for your reply, that’s really helpful to know. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that, and I hope you’re feeling better now. X

This sounds like the kind of sonographer we need more of. When the bowel is stuck to the uterus it is called a negative sliding sign and is an indication of rectovaginal endo which is classed as severe and must be treated in a specialist endo centre.Rectovaginal endo is usually left sided and involves the left ovary stuck with dense fibrosis (endo adhesions). Typical symptoms are lower back pain, leg pain (sciatica), bowel issues, shooting pains up the bum/vagina, pain with sitting and walking.

Where in the UK are you as referral pathways vary?

Thank you so much, that’s so helpful to know. I feel very lucky to have had such a good sonographer do my ultrasound! I’ve been referred to a specialist endometriosis centre which sounds like it’s the right place to be. Just wanted to prepare myself for what to expect from my first appointment with a consultant there!

There is a detailed treatment specification that applies in England and details the pathway in centres. If this applies feel free to message.

Hi. I had all those same symptoms. All left sided hip, groin, leg back snd a ripping feeling in ovary. My ovaries were also stuck with an endometrioma and my bowel is stuck to uterus. I'm stage 4. It improved significantly after surgery. My bowel unfortunately is still stuck as we didn't know the extent of the problem until my lap. However I'm now on minipill and everything is manageable. Good luck.

hi otter13, I had the exact same thing and all the symptoms Lindle described. I’ve had 2 laparoscopy’s now and they finally managed to clear everything. I gave a great consultant I can recommend depending on where you live, but lots of luck xxx
