A lot has happened since my last post but I just wanted to talk to you guys about this. I went to my GP yesterday and discussed the possibility of having endo and my scans etc, we talked about laparoscopy surgery as well but the doctor basically said that lap surgery was their last option. They’re gonna continue with having me on the combined pill (which is fine) and then if that doesn’t help their going to give me another kind of contraception pill, which, I’m also okay with. The problem is, she then said that if that doesn’t help, they will put me on hormone blockers. I’m 22 years old and terrified of the thought of being given hormone blockers. I tried to ask why they wouldn’t give me surgery since it doesn’t make sense that they would dismiss it so quickly? She said they’re not going to operate since my scan didn’t show anything (which, from what I’ve understood, unless you have a cyst you don’t really see the endo), she then talked about the stuff that can go wrong with surgery + healing. I’m just baffled, am I the only one that can’t quite understand why they would put me through hormone blockers and NOT surgery? Obviously it’s not going to straight away, but the doctor just made it sound like lap wasn’t in the cards AT ALL.
I’m not sure if all this makes sense, I’m on a bus atm and super tired 💤
what do you guys think?

If I were you, I would go back to your GP and push for a referral to a gynaecologist. I went to my GP at 23 with horrendous periods and she told me that it was probably endometriosis but as I didn’t want a baby at the time the best treatment was the pill. Three years later and unable to conceive I went to a new GP who referred me for a scan. My scan showed an ovarian cyst but nothing else. My new GP referred me to my fabulous gynaecologist who booked me in for an exploratory laparoscopy and hysteroscopy straight away and found stage 4 endometriosis. It may be worth reminding your GP of the NICE guidelines for endometriosis. You have the right to be involved in any decisions regarding your care. Good luck xxx
It sound exactly like my appointment at Guys and St Thomas’s this week! The consultant was so against me having a lap and kept saying that it’s an invasive procedure and they may not find anything!? But I’m thinking, if they do find any endo they can remove it! It’s so frustrating! My advise is that if you are not happy with what your told, find someone else who can understand and appreciate your concerns and reasons for wanting the lap. Hopefully the pill helps you in the meantime!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through the same thing!! I’m going to ask for a gynae so I can have someone who (hopefully) now a bit more. I know it’s very new with the whole endo but I’ve had pains for over two years now and no one is doing loads about it!
Stay strong and if you need someone to talk to I’m always here x
