When should I get checked out?

I've been diagnosed with endometriosis, not by a specialist but by another gynae who removed an ovarian cyst 2 years ago. I am now seeing a specialist and I'm scheduled to have the coil put in along with taking the pill on top to stop my periods, this appointment is in October.

Im getting really freaked out because I am in pain everyday today is particularly bad, I'm at work and I just want to cry, I can't focus and I'm just having constant burning cramps from my belly button down to the top of my thighs. My period is not due until next Wednesday.

My work is currently very understaffed and I'm the manager, my boss is off all week so I'm just really stuck.

Does anyone else get daily pain, should I go to the doctors? Will they just give me painkillers though......

Hello, sorry to hear you're in pain.

Firstly; you can have a hormone coil put in (mirena or similar) that does the same as a standard copper coil and hormones. Have they offered that? The standard coil changes the uterus preventing implantation, cycles are still normal, the hormones regulate your "cycles" so taking them back to back can mean no "periods" - which has shown to reduce symptoms of endometriosis. Some women have found that just hormone tablets (the pill) helps them manage their endo symptoms

Secondly have you considered surgery for removal your endo; this is shown to considerably improve symptoms by reducing the amount of active endo - a lot of women find even on hormones they need to consider surgery at some point as the endometriosis doesn't stop with hormones, it hibernates it for the time you're taking them.

Daily pain; yup if you go to the docs all they can do is give you painkillers, these of course do help so it's worth looking into, even if it just takes the edge off the pain so you can cope a little better.

I was going to suggest exacly the same as farah below, I am due to have the coil fitted towards the end of the year after my next surgery.

Appreciate the situation at work I’m a full time mum now but when I did work I remember being curled up under my desk some days, crying in the toilets, hidding in the toilets on the flight home from an event in pain. No situation at work is worth putting yourself through something you don’t need too.

Speak to the doctor as soon as you can, consider the coil ask to be referred to a gynaecologist request a scan in the meantime and let work know you are suffering. If you have bios ibsurance with work it helps speed things up!

Good luck xx

Thanks! I think they do plan to put the hormonal coil in because they want to give me double progesterone to stop my periods, just have to wait until October to have it fitted. I literally just wait all day to go home and go to bed..

😔 it’s along time to wait, I hope you have friends and family to talk too? Does your Work know so they can support you for days when you are struggling? Could you go back to see you GO and ask for the cook to be fitted sooner? Xx
