First ultrasound tomorrow....

Finally have my abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow so will see what the results show! I’m convinced I have endo (and have had for 20+ years) and whilst I obviously don’t want it, it will be a relief if I am finally diagnosed and can start to get treatment....

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. Perhaps you’re already aware of this but an ultrasound often doesn’t show endometriosis, especially if you have it outside your ovaries/fallopian tubes. I just had one last week and it didn’t show anything, and was told lots of women that have endometriosis have clear (internal and external) ultrasound scans. I’m just waiting for a Gynaecology appointment now but symptoms definitely fit. Like you I definitely don’t want to have it, but a diagnosis and to start some sort of treatment would definitely be a relief!! Good luck x

Thanks for your reply! I have heard it’s not always picked up. They didn’t bother doing an internal- just abdo for all of one minute and didn’t tell me the result! 🙄

Weird they didn’t do internal... So I was told that the results took a week to come back but I said I was in so much pain I needed to know now and got an emergency doctors appointment that same afternoon and they ensured the results were available immediately, could always try your doctors to try and get the results sooner.... x

The lady was awful! She refused to do an internal even though the doctor has specifically requested it (and asked for it twice) and said I could sue her if she did it as it was unnecessary, which is clearly rubbish as I would be consenting to it! She was really rude, spent all of 1min scanning my tummy and refused to give me even an indication of the result :(

Wow that is a really unacceptable way to treat a patient!! You should complain. I would definitely call your doctor and say that she refused to do it and that you’re concerned because the doctor requested it. Mine was lovely but she also didn’t give any indication of results, I’m not sure they’re allowed to. Can’t believe she said that to you!!

She was really rude and dismissive. I just feel like she can’t have properly investigated it if she didn’t do an internal and hardly spent any time on the abdo. Especially as endo is so hard to detect- it just felt like a complete waste of time. She said she had a 100% result, but I’m assuming if she’d found something she’d have spent longer exploring the extent of it- so I’m guessing it’ll be a negative result

Hey, you should definitely push for an internal scan. I had exactly the same situation 2 years ago, I was meant to have both but they did the abdominal scan, said it was clear and sent me away without bothering to do the rest. After persisting and finally getting to meet with the specialist they sent me back for an internal tvs, and it has shown that both of my ovaries are fixed, so I’ve finally been put forward for a Laparoscopy. It’s all such a battle, you have to constantly call the doctors/complain just to get to the next stage! Xxxx

Sorry you were upset. The ultrasonographer can only do the test which is written on the form. I strongly suspect an internal scan wasnt written on the form hence her reply. These people want to help us but they can't do tests which havent beed req by your doctor. Xxxx
