Last week I had a laparoscopy where I had the mirena coil inserted. After healing from the laparoscopy I’ve been in a lot of pain. Like severe period type cramps and bleeding (was on my period when I had the surgery/insertion and it hasn’t gone away) and going to the toilet is very painful (pelvic pain not like urine infection pain) and makes the cramps worse I’ve been put on Antibiotics but am scared that there is something wrong with my coil or that it’s moved. Has anyone else had experience with this ? Would really appreciate any advice xx

I had a Mirena coil fitted 9 days ago during Laposcopy surgery.
In my hospital pack it said to make a appointment with my doctor in 4 weeks time to check the coil was positioned correctly.
I have had bleeding for the first 7 days with cramps like a very light period. The cramps are starting to wear off at day 9 and I am spotting bleeding now. Like we do towards the end of our period.
I read that while things settled down and we get lighter periods 3 to 6 months after coil is fitted. They may not be regular.
I do feel some discomfort but was not sure if the cramping and tightness was more to do with my body healing inside due to the laparoscopy surgery. I have been taking ibroprofen if it's too much cramping. It helps a bit.
The leftlet I have says, if you gently put your finger in your vagina and feel for two thin threads attached to the lower end of the merina coil you can tell whether it's in place or not.
Do not pull the threads as you may pull the merina coil out.
If you can not feel any threads make a appointment with your doctor or nurse as soon as possible so they can check your merina coil in in place correctly.
If you can not find the threads don't worry they may have simply drawn up in to the womb or cervical canal. Your doctor or nurse will be able to help .
take a paracetamol 1 hour before your appointment incase the coil needs to come out .
I had a lap and mirena inserted about three months ago and like you, I still freak out about whether it has moved or if my body is trying to reject it etc. I have some good days but a lot of the time I'm experiencing random pain and discomfort or severe cramping 'episodes' that feel like my body is trying to give birth! Sometimes I know what has set the pain off and sometimes I just wake up feeling sore and crampy.
I didn't have any bleeding until about a week ago when I started spotting and the pain that came with it was horrendous and is still present but not as bad.
Like the other advice you received, I just keep checking with my fingers to make sure I can feel the strings of the mirena. When I was spotting, I actually couldn't feel them, but knowing that sometimes they retract a little, I tried again a day or two later and found them - which is reassuring.
I have my first post lap appt in a week, and I'm looking forward to more advice because this whole thing does get so tiring and a little overwhelming, despite knowing it may take 3-6 months or in some cases a year, before everything is expected to settle down.
While I plan on waiting it out and hoping my body gets used it, I have heard many stories where the mirena just didn't suit some women and they eventually had it removed.
My advice would be to firstly check for the strings or go to the GP and get them to do it for you if you're concerned (I did that in my second week) and wait and see how your first few months go.
No one knows your body like you do, so if you're really worried or it's not settling down, don't hesitate to get it checked out.
Good luck with it all friend, I hope your pain goes away soon x
