I have suffered with Endo symptoms for years, and I’m having no help from my GP. I’ve had to beg to be referred to an NHS Gynecologist, who told me the same as the GP...just go on contraceptive
I’ve decided to go see a private Gyno, even though I can’t afford it. Just wondering if anyone has visited anyone like this? There’s lists of consultants, but no idea who’s worth paying to see, as in someone who’s actually going to help.
Thanks

If you're working, some workplaces provide medical insurance so your endo can be covered by that, that's what I've done. Our insurer has a website we can use to search for private consultants. Whether you're insured or not: you'll need to choose your consultant, book an appointment and then tell your GP you'd like to be referred privately to ......
If not, then perhaps google for a list of private surgeries near you, or if you know a few; we have Ramsay Health and Nuffield Health (could be in other areas) in Gloucestershire, some are also part of The Gynaecology Group, not sure if that's an all over the UK thing. They'll list doctors in their webpages, then look at their statement on their, it'll give their history and specialisms.
You can also use the BSGE website, that's what a lot of women on here have used; the specialists listed on there are approved, but that doesn't mean others in other surgeries are not. It's like a collection of them, doesn't mean they're better or worse than others out there though. Some of these surgeries may require travel.
It's all preference who you'd like to see as it's a "freedom to choose" idea privately.
I've found private to be quicker, they listen more, won't fob you off with hormones / delay tactics, will want to investigate quicker, the consultant will often do the surgery, you know what you're paying for, general care is so much better. I had my first consultation and he already suggested diagnostic surgery and removal of endo if I needed it in that appointment - all I'd done is explain my symptoms, views and feelings! I could book my lap in for three weeks after that appointment - I waited two months just so I was sorted mentally. Even then they have follow up appointments included. I feel that private understand you want to be seen and have things sorted; the NHS is happy for you to wait - if you're waiting it's not serious so doesn't take up their time.
Happy to explain costing etc, either on here or message me It can all be so confusing at first as there's money involved.
Personally from my own experience I'd stick with a bsge accredited endo centres surgeon. That way you already know that they have completed their specialist advanced laparoscopy excision skills training and have experience in centres dealing with a minimum number of the more severe endo cases.
I naively went to the gynae my insurance company proposed and he was borderline incompetent and actually a fertility guy. He misdiagnosed me as having adeno (I don't) and suggested a hysterectomy when what I needed was a bowel shave which he wasn't licensed to perform. Luckily I found out about bsge centres here and got a second consultation with the bsge centre lead and omg he was night and day better.
This is the map and search Web page for bsge endo centres.
I feel sorry for u I feel the same like we suffering in silence and no one tacking it serious and brushing it off I have to wait tell may to see a Gyno but explain to my doctor is now good she just brushing me off giving me painkillers codin
I also live in west yorkshire and saw a general gynaecologist who also refused to help me, go back to your gp and demand to be referred to pinderfields to see mr kremer. He specialises in endometriosis and is BSGE accredited, that is what I did and I have my first appointment next week. You have every right to ask for a second opinion especially as the previous doctor you saw didn't specialise in endometriosis. Good luck x
As this forum is a public site connected to Endometriosis UK, specific health professional names can not be mentioned as per our code of conduct so other members aren't going to be able to give you a specific recommendation however we do recommend that women seek out institutions that have been peer-reviewed by other medical professionals and deemed centres of excellence. We feel that a good place to start looking for this information is through the BSGE website and Dr Foster website.
