Ok it could just be me, but I'm struggling to lose weight, currently following slimming world. Has anyone else experienced this with endometriosis? Has anyone got any diets they follow to help? Thanks

Heya,

There's no firm 'evidence' as such but lots of people have linked endometriosis and weight gain, alongside a struggle to lose weight. There's a typical stomach pouch a lot of people with endo report having, partially to do with excess hormone and estrogen production.

I follow a specific endometriosis diet which aims to avoid foods that lead to inflammation, and feed a more natural lifestyle. A great deal of the manufactured additives and sweeteners are thought to fuel endometriosis and similar conditions. I have noticed an improvement to my general lifestyle from it and I'm starting to lose weight, but it's a slow burn and not my main priority anymore - attempting to be healthy and limit my symptoms is.

Have a google, but basically I eat organic, avoid soy products, and don't eat dairy or complex carbs. Anything which either encourages estrogen production or has estrogen within it I avoid. I also limit my alcohol - I've found wine REALLY flares me but 'purer' spirits are okay. I have my typical cheat things, like chocolate, but I limit this. For me it's been about recognising what does and doesn't make me feel good. Hope that helps x

I am in the same boat, I fluctuate by about 4lb during the month but doesn’t matter if I eat rubbish or only healthy don’t seem to lose much weight 😢

I was told by a surgeon that does weight loss surgery that he can tell if someone has endo by their fat reserves. They tend to be more fibreous and hard to shift.

And in some cases exercise and deit along doesnt work....

But im not sure about any research that supports this although it kinda makes sense.

X

My weight has just totally ballooned the last couple of years and no amount of exercise or dieting would help, even the Endo diet. I’d maybe get lucky and then lose 1-2lbs but that would be all and then it would go back on anyway! It’s horrible, I haven’t found a way to lose any weight yet and am hating the fact that I’m getting so massive x

I am not aware of any foods that specifically give me more flare ups.

Before I come off the pill I managed to lose 2st without any issue and maintain it for a year. It was only once I've come off the pill that despite eating healthy I've just seen to gain that weight back. Ideally I would love to get back to that weight and have 1st6lbs to go but I either maintain or lose like 0.5lb. I just wondered if there was anything to suggest endometriosis played a part. It's definitely something I'll be asking my consultant in 4weeks time.
