Sorry for bombarding tonight! I need to make a decision around a hysterectomy and it’s causing me to have panic attack’s for various reasons. I wondered how people make/made that decision? Any experiences would be appreciated x

Hello!

I do sympathise big time!It depends what your issues are but, genuinely in terms of being pain free, having no heavy bleeding every month I would highly recommend it.I had to have my ovaries removed due to a cancer scare which was the biggest challenge but,I had a robotic hysterectomy and came home the same day.Seven months on you can’t even see my four tiny scars. You must take care and rest, rest and rest again. It’s a massive op but,I had endo, fibroids and a sinister ovarian cyst and whilst surgical menopause has been super hard the hysterectomy was the best decision ever...I’m also 10lbs lighter and pain free👍👍If you want to ask any questions I would be so happy to help.Best wishes Clare

Thank you. Do you get any side effects from having the hysterectomy? I would need ovaries removed as well. A friend said that having hers has caused other issues so she’s traded one problem for another but she didn’t seem to want to go into details

Hi there,

To be honest everyone person is an individual and will react differently to surgery. If you have been in lots of pain previously and have struggled for years, you may feel you have a new lease of life. In terms of side effects for me personally I had a few set-backs. It's the emotional aspect that is certainly the most challenging. I would have loved children but, sadly it wasn't to be. It takes a while to come to terms with this but, I cannot emphasize enough how amazing it has been not to have the horrendous period/heavy bleeding and abdominal pain! It really is a blessing. I have absolutely no pain whatsoever which is amazing. I take herbal/vitamins to support my recovery:

Evening Primrose Oil

Vit D

Mega multi vitamin

Magnesium

Kalms

Sage Tea-amazing for hot flushes!!

Wellsprings 20-1 Hormone cream

I exercise regularly and eat sensibly. It just takes time.

For me the surgical menopause has been a real challenge but, I have an amazing husband and beautiful friends supporting me and that means the world.

It is my personal choice not to take HRT as I can only have a very low dose anyway. You may find it supports you in your recovery. Please have a very thorough chat with your consultant and ensure you are completely comfortable with your decision.

Wishing you a very good recovery, Clare X

I feel that if it came to that stage you would need to weigh up certain factors. Have you already got children/do you want more children etc

I have 1 child and we are currently trying to work out if we want to extend that. I need to have a hysterectomy at some point but I have to work out when and I’m finding it impossible to decide. Even if I have another child I’m worried I’ll make a decision then later regret it, it’s so final. I’m 31 and I can get my head around having one in my late 30s but it’s managing to get there when no treatments work except zoledex which I need s break from

Such a hard decision but you’re still young and the option is there to have one more child before having the hysterectomy

Its the best decision i ever made.

I had full hysterectomy and oopherectomy at the age of just turning 27.

I dont have children.

If i decide to have a family i can always adopt and/or foster. Theres other options to being a parent than biologically.

To me it was a case of if i cant be well and able to look after myself...i cant look after another to the best of my ability.

If you want to talk jusy send a message.

X

Myself, husk won't sort my Endo as its everywhere. Once the disease sets up independent Endo outside the pelvis it is likely you won't be pain free. The operation is different for everyone but scaring and overhealing could take place. Also like any opp there could be nerve damage. There is a risk of aging a little faster and shortening your life by a few years. If your under 50 I don't think you should do it. Over several years you probably would have reduced sexual drive and may find after 15 yrs you might not be able to enjoy sex. There are risks of bladder issues with the opp, possibly a prolaping bowel and future surgeries. There are several drugs you can take and strong painkillers available. Endo is a painful disease, you may have to change your choices with job and life style. It's a bit of a lottery of what is best and if a Hyso will even make it better! Good Luck, I feel for you having to consider this. My best Joy x
