So after 5 years of suffering in pain and countless doctor and a&e appointments while being on codeine, paracetamol, tramadol, gabapentin, naproxen, buscopan every day at maximum doses he has finally agreed to refer me to a pain clinc since I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, before I got the diagnosis he was wanting to get therapy to show me the pain was all in my head! But the doctor said no matter what the pain clinic say I need or advise him he will not prescribe me anything stronger than what I already have which does nothing for the severe pain days. His excuse is that im only 24 years old and ill just get addicted to morphine. I am constantly being treated like a drug addict waiting for my next fix! He also said I must be overly sensitive to pain which is rather insulting as I gave birth without painrelif or gas & air and didnt shout/swear plus my kid was back to back which is supposed to make labour more painful so I personally think I have a high pain threshold, but endo pain is like nothing else! Has anyone been in this position before or have any advise? Thanks.

I'm so sorry your GP is being so dismissive and unsupportive.

My advice is to see another doctor.

I am shocked that a GP is going against a consultant.

My GP was also dismissive so I now don't see him anymore and it's the best decision I made. Luckily I'm under two gynaecologists- a fertility doctor and a general gynae.

You cannot be expected to live with this pain- your GP is sounds unknowledgeable on endo. Personally I found labor less painful than endo!

Stand strong and don't be fobbed you off you can do this 😊

Good luck xoxo

See what the pain clinic say. Then go back to your doc if he’s uncooperative change doc or make a complaint. All the best.

Hey,

My doctor was the same.. just period pains he told me, I have endo too, I got put on morphine at 15 and still on it 18.. I’ve never been addicted.. my pain clinic doctor tried me on other methods of pain relief without using opioids, didn’t work so I went back and because the pain relief doctor took me off the strong meds my actual doctor thought I was fine and completely misunderstood what was going on.. I went back to my pain clinic doctor and he just prescribed me back onto the morphine..

I then changed doctors and im actually getting listened to like an actual person..

see if your pain clinic gp will prescribe, if not change doctors it was pretty simple for me:)

I know it is difficult, but please be assertive. For you to be in so much is not good, maybe keep a diary 24 hours and definetly change your GP, if you cannot see another doctor see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who may have a bit more time to listen carefully to your symptoms. Sometimes when you are in so much pain it is difficult to describe the type of pain. Take a parent or partner with you. It sometime snot the doctors fault they only have ten minutes, so write a pain diary over 24 hours then write it down in bullet points and I am sure you will get results. Keep my fingers crossed for you.
