I am 20 years old and was only diagnosed with Endometriosis in September, I am usually great a dealing with pain, however, this is now affecting my whole life. I am currently on 8 tramadol tablets a day and I know that I am becoming extremely addicted to them and they aren't really helping with the pain anymore. Any advice?

Extreme pain
Hi
I’m sorry to hear your in a lot of pain I was recently diagnosed with endo after 10 years. I was told the pain was in my head or I was doing it for attention then I had my laparoscopy on Oct 2 this year which proved I didn’t make it up. I have delt with really extreme unbearable pain. I have been to A&E I get sent home crying because the pain hurts so bad I can hardly breathe. They just give me paracetamol which doesn’t help with the pain. My endo has effected every part of my life because my life involves around my pain medication & how severe the pain is. Though I’m not on tramadol I’m on many other medication which I was told you can become addicted to them. Like you my medication doesn’t have any effect on the pain. The only advice I could give you is ask your doc to swap to different tablets? I know it’s not very good advice but I hope it helps you & good luck x
I know it’s tough, but you really need to get in and speak to your doctor and get off the tramadol. If you’re addicted to them, that’s just going to cause you a whole load of extra issues on top of your Endo which you don’t need. Your doctor will be able to help with this and also explore other options to help manage the pain with you.
Have you tried things like the Endo diet to see if that works for you? Personally it didn’t do anything for me other than make me grumpy but I know it helped a lot of other women on here and really brought their pain levels down substantially x
I have recently just changed my doctor's, mainly because I didn't think my old doctor's cared that much to get me better. However, this means that this doctor has not yet received my whole file. I asked for a plan to come off tramadol which she pretty much ignored. She has given me mefenamic acid to stop me from taking so much tramadol. I am just now really worried about the withdrawal symptoms. Going to make a doctor appointment on Monday, my only issue is I am about to take my exam at university so I am really scared about how this is all going to affect my grades.
I have only heard about the endo diet when I joined this and I am looking into what the diet consists of. I spoke to my mum about it and she is pretty uncomfortable with the situation as I have already lost a lot of weight but I am going to give it a shot after my exams.
Hi, I’m 22 and I know how you feel. I’m on tramadol 400mg slow release. By the sounds of it your like me, and on the strongest they can give. But if you don’t mind me asking, are you still under your gynie? And are they moving forward with a plan on what to do to help you? The reason I ask is because they shouldn’t give you such high pain killers as a long term fix. Mines just until I go for 3rd op. They can try you on different contraception, as that is meant to help with the pain. Hope you start to feel better soon x
I have been to see gynie once. They are the ones who put me on a 4-month plan; 3 weeks on Mefenamic acid and tranexamic acid, and if that didn't help they wanted me to try going on the pill for 3 months and then finally get surgery if none of that helps. They haven't really said anything else to me about it. If I am honest I feel like I am just waiting on something going bad. When they first gave me tramadol I thought to give me 100 was insane but now I am on my second lot of it in around 4 weeks and that's horrible. I hate taking it but don't really have much of a choice. Thank you so much x
