I'm looking for some advice....I had a saplingo oophorectomy? in March of this year. As I had my ovaries removed I've been taking Estelle HRT as suggested by my GP. My periods are still super heavy and my endo pain has dramatically increased. My GP said that the only way to cure the pain, is to stop the HRT which she wouldn't advise?! She has said that once I'm through the menopause the endo will disappear- not sure this correct. When I asked for a referral to an endo specialist she said there was no point as they would say the same?! Any advise...? Tia

Worsening pain- causes?
Is there another GP that you can see? Just to push you off is not a solution I would certainly be going back and pushing them for a referral
Have you just had one ovary removed then with the salpingo? They can do just the salpingo oophorectomy which just takes one ovary and one tube or unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy which will take both. I'm just discussing my options with my Gyne now, if it's just one side they said it wouldn't be effective but I wouldn't need HRT. With the complete removal I would be they said they would need to use only low levels of HRT which they may need to adjust because it's a balance between preserving things like bone Heath but not having enough to feed the endometriosis but that both operations may not deliver a cure . I would certainly push to be seen by a specialist so they can make sure they have your HRT right and you get some help. Good luck
Is it just one hormone or both in your HRT? The oestrogen would continue to feed the endo making it worse. Xxxxx
Hi, from what I have read endo can certainly improve with the menopause but it doesn't necessarily disappear. Some women continue to experience significant pain.
In part it seems to depend on how long you've had endo and how advanced it has got. Even after the menopause our bodies produce some oestrogen so it can continue to spread.
There's also the issue of adhesions left behind either by the endo itself or surgery. These can continue to cause pain.
So we can hope for an improvement with the menopause, but it's certainly not guaranteed.
I'd keep pressing to see a specialist.
Good luck!
