Can anyone tell me - if the Mirena coil is put in place after a laparoscopy to treat endometriosis, is it supposed to stop monthly periods? If you continue to have monthly periods (although they are lighter), does that mean that the coil isn't working for the endometriosis?
Thanks.

I think the Mirena can still be beneficial for endometriosis even if you're still having periods. Over time your periods may stop altogether eventually, how long have you had the Mirena? Xxx
Thanks. I have had the Mirena for nearly 2 years. My periods had got lighter but have recently started getting heavier again. I've also started getting more pain again. But that might be a side effect of a medicine which I was taking for migraines.
About 1/3 stop periods altogether, 1/3 are unchanged and 1/3 have lighter periods or irregular spotting.
I'm not sure any research has been done to prove scientifically if that correlates with effectiveness of the treatment but I'd think It probably doesn't as I had a hormone resistant Endo nodule but my periods did stop altogether on the coil. It still might have helped suppress further superficial or ovarian Endo cysts had I been able to tolerate it, it's a real shame I couldn't.
Hi - I've tried the mirena twice. Both times I had constant spotting. First time I had it removed after 3 months because I rejected it. 2nd time a few years later after a laparoscopy I 'endured' it for 10 months. In the end I felt it just substituted one thing for another, I was getting awful cramping even though it was merely spotting. When it makes you so depressed and tired there's only so far you can go. Admittedly it kept the endo from coming back. I switched onto the combined pill Qlaira - supposed to be similar to visanne but we can't get that in UK. It does help moderately well. It looks like I'm probably getting a hysterectomy though in new year.
Good luck with yours, some people swear by it but it can take 6 months to settle.
