Doctor referred me for a colonoscopy not a gynacologist ...

I think I have endometriosis ..

I have backache all month, constipation, diarrhoea, blood in stools first two days and irregular periods.

The doctor has referred me for a colonoscopy as it might be endometriosis but said they might reject it and say I need a gynacologist.

Would a colonoscopy be any use?

Yes I had a full one done @27 and it rules out any intestinal issues.

The only thing to be mindful of is that endo will only show if it is so severe that it penetrates the wall. I had countless colonoscopy's but every time it missed endo in my pouch of Douglas as the camera shows inside the intenstines when a lot of the damage can be outside. It is definitely worth having though as it will rule out any other potential issues x

I had one on my route to diagnosis - it's not really to diagnose endo (as it is rare to see it inside the bowel) but so that they can rule out any bowel conditions such as colitis which could be causing your bowel symptoms. As it's less invasive than the surgery needed to diagnose endo they tend to do things this way round. If you have rectal bleeding it needs to be investigated properly regardless of whether you have endo or not.

I've had the bowel issues for well over 12 years now.

I'm never sure if the blood is inside my stool or just on the top of my stool (if that makes sense )

I have been trying to get pregnant for nearly 3 years now and nothing happening but I still haven't been sent for any kind of tests which is disheartening .

I mentioned my last period lasted 10 days with clots and heavy and doctor said that's normal ..I just don't know what to think anymore.

Get the colonoscopy so they can rule out bowel issues. Once that has been done it puts you in a better position to insist that you need to see a gynae. Your doctor is wrong - periods like that aren't normal - but sadly too many GP's seem to think horrendous periods are just something to be shrugged off.

Take care. x.

I was referred o a gynecologist because I insisted I wanted that before bowel because I was concerned about symptoms I didn't think could be bowel related. I do have a lot of digestion issues as well like you named above which was why she wanted to go to gastroenterology first. My gyne has referred me to gastroenterology now anyway as he wants to see whats going on there as well before going straight to surgery, he said there is a significant possibility of endo but he feels I may need a dual approach with Gastroenterology as well due to all my symptoms. So I don't think it will do any harm it will be good to have that ruled out/dealt with as well then they cant try and tell you its bowel related further down the line. You can go to your gyne appointment knowing exactly whats going on there. I hope it all goes well.
