20 yr old daughter had first lap three weeks ago. Bed bound since, lots of pain, had to stop Morphine as suddenly could not breath.

Had constipation and given meds which made her have violent diareara and then she lost a cup of sticky dark blood, call doc and spoke to the one who gave her constipation meds and he was not concerrned,,,,but we are.

Only peeing once a day. She was retaining urine in hospital and had to be catheterised.

Lost weight due to pain and nausea, and when she tries to eat, gets bad stabben pain in stomach.

Not sleeping.

Is this normal and any advice really appreciated.

Taking the following meds:

Tramadol, Gabenpentin, paracetomol, peppermint caps, diclofenic, omeprazole.

Also senna and bowel sachets but stopped since bad diareara yesterday.

I think it might be good to speak to the GP again. After three weeks I think your daughter could expect to be recovering a lot better than this. Xxx

That looks like quite a cocktail. I wonder if some of the post op symptoms may not actually be the cumulative effect of the meds. I would see a different doctor and get advice on what could be reduced or removed depending on her situation.

I had a reaction to the GA, and bladder issues for a week and needed morphine for 24 hours but after that only needed paracetamol with maybe one stronger pil the first few nights to sleep for a few nights. The CO2 chest pain lasted a week. Moving helps so bed bound is not good as it will settl on the chest.

It may be worth seeing if you can get a pain management consult too if there is a chronic pain underlying situation.

Turmeric is meant to be good for inflammation, wheat/gluten and casein in cows milk are meant to be bad. Try lots of organic fresh food, smoothies etc. you could try prunes or liquorice or liquorice tea rather than pharma laxatives which are rather violent.

Hi doesn't sound good poor thing x maybe you could reduce meds as she's taking rather slot and they all had side affects xx god luckxx

We have considered this but heard so many stories on here and other places that they just give you fluids, pain meds and send you home within a few hrs 😔😔. Plus the car journey would be very painful, but a must if she cant get the answers.

Going to call the support line on here when it opens at 12.30.

The added complication is she has ME, Chronic Pain Syndrome and a few other chronic illnesses.

She had the Lap privately through her fathers employers health scheme and on the first week home we called the ward for advice but they were never really helpful, as were the gps. Not sure three weeks on if its apprepriate to call? We do seem to have her consultants/surgeons mobile number on a letter head, but as we have called the ward and her secretary previously I feel they may think we are being a pest, I feel ackward but want my baby sorted.

She slways puts on a brave face when talking to them so they dont see the agony and exhaustion....

If you have had this privately then be demanding and go straight to your consultant and raise your concerns. GPs are out of their depth and probably A and E will do what you say, drug, drip, discharge - you need specialist advice and a plan.

Talk to your insurer and get authorisation for an emergency follow up consult. You have been unlucky with private postop ward support. My op was private. I called three times with fewer issues than you report and got far better advice and twice I was called in as a precaution for fear of infection.

I just wander if she has a infection or a complication that making her in pain at least at a&e they will check her bloods and urine to see if the elivated white blood cells and check everything else mayb even a ct or mri. Privates hospitals are fantastic for getting things done quick but u dont get the care of if anything goes wrong urgently!

Thank you all so much.

Decided to call the ward and realised today is surgery day for her consultant.

Spoke to useless male nurse once again, but he did say he would contact the surgeon and call us back. To his word within half hr he called back and said consultant said go to a&e......really helpful and not what I would expect from private 😡

We called 111 and told a littke white lie and said consultant said she needed seeing by out of hours (as we knew a&e was not the place).

Doctor called back from 111 and said she needed seeing and made appointment at local community hospital to see out of hours doc.

She struggled out of bed got dressed and just getting into car when a medic car turns up with a doctor. Some how there had been a crossed wire and he was told to visit her at home......which was much better, as no painful car journey.

Anyway he examined her and said stomach was soft, slight temp, urine clear, not dyhdrated. He then read through all her meds and said he is pretty sure its the diclofenic making her stomach red raw. And this would make sense as she stopped morphine due to breathing issues and she was feeling better within herself but added diclofenic in as hospital had prescribed it and as now without morphine we needed to add something for the pain.

Also told her to add gaviscon but she cant stand it, so I take Ranitidine so he said take that.

He feels all pain as gastro gather then gyno. Told her to give it 24/48 hrs without diclofenic and if no better call 111 or GP.

Fingers crossed he is right. But whats made us mad is that she has spoken to docs on the phone and also saw one on monday, and I asked him to go through her meds to see if all was ok, and no one had picked up on this 😡😡😡.

Im glad they came out for her i know what a car journeys like when ur in pain. Can i ask has your daughter been on any antibiotics?
