You can have from immense pain to no pain, you can be stage 1 with the worst pain to being stage 4 and having no pain.
I have stage 4 endometriosis and I never had severe pain until the cysts on my ovaries got so big that they started pressing on nerves. Looking back though prior to that I had years of digestive issues and generally feeling a bit run down, achy joints etc... was told IBS and wheat intolerance. Since I had surgery a few years ago to remove the cysts and endo I have very few digestive problems and can eat all the things I was told I was intolerant to so I'm sure that those IBS symptoms were early signs of the endo. I am very lucky now that I hardly have any pain despite having things stuck together and lots of scar tissue but it did severely damage my ovaries and cause me to go into early menopause.
I would definitely talk to your GP about it and see if you can get a referral to Gynae if you are not happy that it is IBS. The problem is that endo does not necessarily show up without having a diagnostic laparoscopy which is an invasive hospital procedure so there aren't really any tests your GP can do but getting a referral to talk to a Gynae who specialises in endo would at least be a start. Good luck!
I'm also stage 4 and had no pain other than some digestive wind pain until three years ago. I had other symptoms of it already so I think it was probably raging before then. I'm waiting to see how much impact my excision surgery has on my fatigue, which long proceeds the pain.
But as has been said, some women with stage 1 endo are in immense pain, some women with stage 4 have no pain at all.
