What to bring to the hospital?

Hey guys,

As lap is coming up I'm just wondering what to bring to the hospital? I'm always the over packer. I don't want to bring to much at the same time not to little!

Hope everyone is well

Hi, I had my lap two weeks ago.. I took in an overnight bag with dressing grown, slippers & wash bag. They also advise to take your own sanitary towels.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Hiya

They will give you a gown, I think it's called, to wear. It ties up at the back, but the gap shows your bottom 😉 so I would take a dressing gown to wear as you'll be likely to be walking down to the pre-surgery room before your op. Slippers too.

I would pack a couple of small bottles of water too. When I came round my mouth was so dry, and although they obviously give you water, it's nice to have your own stash that you can get when you want it without having to ask.

Magazines for while you're waiting are a good idea.

For when you're going home, ask the person who's picking you up to bring a pillow so that you can put it between your tummy and the seatbelt, just so they it doesn't dig in.

I went to Primark and brought a couple of pairs of lounge pants a size up from my regular size to wear home. You want something really that you can pull up above your incision(s) or something that will sit below them. So ty and avoid things with tight waistbands. A nightie was my saviour as well to wear once I was home.

Stock up on sanitary towels and take a couple in with you. Stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen as well for when you're home.

And most of all, take your positive mind with you...every bit of positivity will help you heal quicker 😊

Expect to rest afterwards, listen to your body and do what you feel you need.

Lots of love xx

I took a nightie to the hospital with me too, was very glad of it as I had to stay for quite a few hours and wouldn't have wanted to be in the gappy gown all that time... especially after I bled on it! I also took my mobile and headphones, so I could listen to music afterward and I wished I had taken my phone charger!!

I took a dressing gown, slippers, book, and a change of clothes, deodrant and a phone charger on the off chance I stayed in over night.

Make sure what ever clothes you take to wear home are loose and won't press on your stomach.

I wouldn't over think it, I was in the hosp for 12 noon, got called down to theatre at 4 and was back home by 7:30!

As a helpful side note get you're house etc in order before the op and set up where you're going to spend the next week (for me the sofa) aka with pillows and blanket ready to go as chances are you won't be able to move very well for a couple of days x
