Hi All,

I am wondering whether the Mirena coil is only used for treat the endometriosis pain or whether it also prevents the endometriosis growth (new/old lesions). Does anyone know?

It's supposed to suppress the growth of endometriosis and help with pain.

Great to know that it suppress the growth of endometriosis! :)

But, do you know if it also suppress the growth of old implants? I see the logic on: mirena - no menstruation - no new endometriosis lesions. But I am not sure if the ones I already have out of the uterus could stop growing!

I don't know, but I'm going to say it does suppress growth of old implants as they basically won't be able to feed off the estrogen but I could be totally wrong. I had the coil and it help'd for a short period of time.

I have heard the same from other girls: mirena was effective the first year but after that they started having symthoms again. That is why I was wondering if Mirena does suppress also the growth of older implants.

It's really hard to say as half the women who try it have a brilliant time with it then the other half don't. I actually formed new pain while on the coil so maybe it just didn't work for me.

It's always best to try these things out first, I was reluctant for years but finally gave in as I tried everything else.

I have it inserted, but I have been on it just for 3 months. So far: pain is almost the same (not too much, but the same), but my cycles are now each 23 days instead 28 days they used to be ... I know I have to give it more time, but we'll see... I was told my endometrioma cyst could be reduced with the Mirena, but it is still the same right now. I am trying to avoid surgery, but if the mirena does not work on me I think it would be the best solution.

let's see ...!

It suppresses the growth of the lining of the uterus, so you pass less blood/clots therefore less pain.

I stopped getting pain from my periods when I stopped using tampons and switched to a menstual cup. Fewer chemicals in your body and shorter periods (by which I mean the chemicals used to bleach the cotton fibre in tampons can affect your periods and cause cramps).

I've used a fleurcup for about 5 years, swear by it and won't go back to tampons.

The mirena got the bleeding under control.

Hope you find suitable pain relief.
