My period is due on Monday and the first day is excruitiating. Im anxious and frightened. Last month I was bed ridden for 48 hours. The pain comes in waves and when it peaks every hour or so I was writhing on the bed in pain and sobbing in desperation for it to stop.
I have some new meds to try but that doesn't stop me being scared.

You can take some painkillers a day before to help with the pain .. Some of the pain killers prevent the pain neuros from reacting heavily ..taking them after you start feeling the pain will not help.
I hope you dont have a bad one this month. I am scared for my wife too ..Due in a week
I totally sympathise, mine are awful and not much better since my laparoscopy. The waiting game is terrible.
Definitely start to take painkillers over the weekend, I think ibuprofen will block the prostgladins a bit if you take them before as well as during. I manage by taking ibuprofen and then two hours later paracetamol and then alternating it through the day.
You can also take co-codamol but it can give you an upset stomach, best to speak with a pharmacist.
I know this doesn't help but stress can make it worse and make you feel like you can cope less. Try to do something really nice over the weekend to take your mind off it - go shopping, go for a long walk, have dinner with someone etc.
My doctor has given me a diplofenic suppository to try as it's the most powerful kind. Last month the out of hours doc gave me an injection of it and it worked well. But so many other things haven't worked so I don't feel very hopeful
I've tried Solpadol and Tramadol but codeine makes me sick. I've tried mefenamic acid and naproxen and one more that I can't recall. None of them even touch the pain on the first day .
That's a shame I found them to be helpful as long as I took them a few days in advance. I know I took too many though. Hope you find something that works for you.
