They may do an internal examination. Then they will possibly either wish to attempt medication first or a laparoscopy surgery. I had a laparoscopy last April and it really wasn't as bad as I feared. In fact I recovered really well and the whole experience was fine. Did they say if your cyst was a endometriosis cyst, sometimes called either a chocolate cyst or endometrioma X
During the ultrasound they said there was a endometriosis cyst and a ovarian cyst. this is the 2nd ovarian cyst i have actually been diagnosed with but im sure there has been more before. The idea of the surgery doesnt really bother me as much as having injections lol. If i do have to have a laparoscopy it will be my first surgery. My fear of injections out weights everything else.......stupid i know.
In terms of medications is it just hormone medication because i have been on cerazette pill up until i started getting symptoms.
They may ask you to consider a course of Prostap injections which put you into temporary menopause to see if that helps shrink your cysts and with your symptoms generally. In terms of injections, I had to have one immediately before I went to sleep and one each day for seven days following my op. Prostap is administered by injection, usually monthly. At your pre op assessment you will need to give them some blood to test. Also, you may have your CA125 levels tested, which is another blood test. I found these ok because I am not needle phobic. If you explain that you are I'm sure that the nurses will be able to reassure you and it will be worth it to get the treatment you need. Good luck X
