Prostap and depression

Hi everyone, just wondering if any of you ladies have been prescribed prostap and what are your experiences of it? I have been on it now for about 18 months and over the last 6 have noticed a real dip in my mood, I feel completely distressed, panicky and anxious 😩 and just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Sorry if I'm wronge but I thought you should only be on it for 6 months?

Are you under a specialist at a BSGE centre?

Hiya. Thanks for replying yes I'm under Stepping Hill but they are really dragging their feet, I'm awaiting full excision of the endometriosis and adhesion's with bowel resection and removal of my ovaries, tubes, and cervix. I was referred to them last April after being seen by general gynae under 2 different trusts since December 2012. I was put on prostap in June 2014. Xx

Hello, I'm sorry I haven't lots of advice but I can at least say you're not alone. I'm on prostap (4 months in) and I've noticed lots of changes to my mood and temperament. Sometimes I could cry for no reason other times I could scream! Not like me at all. I've found that although it sometimes triggers some pain the mild hrt I was prescribed for hot flushes and night sweats helps. My gp said that she could prescribe me an anti depressant that she gives to menopausal women but I've declined for now. I was googling prostap like the mad internet symptom searcher I've become and not getting very far, then I thought, look up the menopause and bingo! For now I'm just reassured that I know what's causing the changes and have a new found respect for the power of hormones!

As tboag said this isn't a drug that you should be on for too long. After 6 months you really should be taking a mild hrt as it affects your bone density. Sorry for going on if you already have this info, just better safe than sorry. If you haven't this should be something your gp can help with. I'm taking livial which is 2.5 mg tibolone.

Hope that helped? X

Having a search on here from others' feedback should give you enough about the dangers of being on Prostap - that the doctors either don't know or won't tell you! Agree with previous post - you should NOT be on this for more than 6 months. That is the maximum advisable. Have you been given anything else with it by way of protection for bone loss, etc - ie, HRT addback? I'd speak to someone quickly about not continuing it. If I had my time again, I wouldn't have agreed to go on it - but I only know that with hindsight. Good luck with that

Hey thanks for the reply! No I'm not on anything for add back, I was but it flared my pain up. I go back to the hospital next Tuesday so I will be speaking to my gynaecologist about my concerns. Take care Rachel x
