Just looking for some help! Does anyone with endometriosis get a bad reaction from any types of food? If so what kind of symptoms do you get?!

Hi, I am unsure if it is because of endo symptoms but I get bloated after coffee, cheese, and bread, i also get worst pain in my back if i eat something rich! x

If I overdo the alcohol I can have a few days of pelvic pain. I can get away with a single glass of wine 😓

As an aside, I have recently had the York food intolerance tests done and they came back as intolerant to cows milk. I have never noticed a link with dairy and any symptoms but it is my weakness, cheese especially. They do say whatever you crave is probably what you should avoid as you're getting a kind of opiate response to the food.

Then I started googling the subject and found dairy is a big culprit of causing inflammation and prostaglandin production so it seems it would be wise to give it up or drastically reduce.

I'll be interested to see what others come back with.

Yes I do, over the last couple of years I have developed problems with nuts, bananas, chocolate and msg. I get red blotches, tight throat and breathless, feel a bit like I am not all there. I have to drink loads of water and take antihistamine.

Also if I eat too many wheat products I get extremely bloated, uncomfortable and indigestion. I never eat white flour products. Also I can't do any physical activity after eating so if I have a pile of ironing I can't do it after a meal as it make bloating far worse. I plan around it.

I also have thyroid problems, my GP thinks that as I have 2 autoimmune problems I am more likely to develop allergies. I have been managing but next week have another GP appointment when I will I insist on some proper testing as it's not much fun when I feel like I can't breathe. I feel like once you get one problem you just end up with loads more! What are your symptoms?

Ditto thyroid problems and food intolerances- gluten, caffeine, alcohol, sugar. Not fun. Am sure there is a huge link between 'leaky gut' as they call it in America, thyroid issues and endo.

Nice to hear I am not alone Cmat, obviously not nice for you having these problems! I sometimes feel like I have everything! I think you are right about leaky gut. I did spend a while eating Manuka honey all of the time, it improved things slightly but got very expensive. I am always overhauling my diet.

I know, and it feels like people think I'm just being awkward adding new things to my list all the time but it's not worth feeling crap! I get everything from stomach pains and bowel issues to headaches and dry eye. I expected to lose weight when I dropped chocolate and other sweet things but that hasn't even happened lol! At the mo I am trying maka root and a few other supplements- agree you have to draw a line though and not break the bank. All the best to you xx

Maka root is one I haven't tried so I will add that to my list! I am sure people think I am awkward too but there is nothing in the world that tastes good enough to feel that ill over. All the best to you too xx

Unfortunately I get bloated to all the food I crave so I have had to stop myself! It is hard! For me it's is sweet food after savoury and also wheat!

But I have been diagnosed with ISB also so maybe you have that as well as endo!

I was told for 4 years I had ISB only in the last 2 years I have forced them to investigate ISB. Unfortunately IBS can be mistaken for endo (like me) like me for years!!

Do a food diary Hun it may work for you xxxx

Yes I have found reducing wheat out of my diet has really really helped the pain, bloating, upset stomachs that I've had in the past. I was diagnosed with IBS years ago, but now know it's endo related. I think it's a case of carefully cutting out certain foods to see. Still get really random upset stomachs though when I've been careful, kind of use to it now!

Hey I've had quite a lot of experience in this. I've had a lot of issues and even after my lap the pain restarted I got fed up with doctors telling me to try medication that wasn't working. Or that they didn't know what to do with me it was heartbreaking. So I investigated into the endo diet as my consultant had told me I had a lot of bowel endo that may have had some left. So I decided to cut out dairy wheat and gluten and its really hard. But I noticed a huge difference and although I'm not 100% better and may have to go back for another lap in Jan I have been able to get out of my bed even light exercise more energy dealing with my symptoms a lot better. Now I know everyone is different but when I saw the consultant a few days ago he said that him and gastro doctors have a lot of the same patients and that the research done shows a link between endo and it being an auto immune disease. He said there is a very strong link between endo and food intolerances because of all this. If it works stick with it if it doesn't then well you've just been eating healthier. It's really worked with me could be because I have a sensitivity to this food or because my body finds the food I eat now easier to digest. Sorry for the essay but I wish someone had gone into this detail because it has been the difference from not being able move from my pain because I was in agony to re building my life and almost feeling like I have a normal life. Hope you get something from this xxx

well i have both endo and autoimmune attacking my kidney, i guess cutting dairy products leave me less bloated, but i am not sure about wheat, i guess i dont have the guts to try cutting it.

and yes these are two of the things i really crave for...carbs in general and dairy products.

I have read a lot of articles that say most women with endometriosis usually have bowel problems too. So I have been following a irritable bowel syndrome diet for a while now and it helps a lot! It's mad how many foods, condiments, vegetables etc. actually irritate us and make our symptoms worse. It's worth a try if your willing to give it a go. I printed mine, I stuck one on the fridge, kept one in my bag for when I eat out, and gave one to my mum for when she does the food shopping. Type it into google it's called the FODmaps diet.

Good luck,

And lots of love

Not sure I can blame Endo but I'm now Lactose intolerant... It sucks!!! I really miss ice-cream and all the varieties of cheese!!!

I have these flare ups of bowel/stomach troubles that is sometimes not connected to any food that I could pinpoint, but some food I know can trigger it. I know I cannot be allergic to the food since 90% times I feel perfectly ok and then suddenly I get sick. For example dairy. I can drink coffee with milk 10 times without symptoms and then one day it just makes me horribly sick, and I think it has to do with hormone levels and possible inflammation of endo tissue. My triggers are drinks containing caffeine, milk, some veggies, anything sour for example lemon, and sugar. The worst is when they are combined. I cannot understand how someone could have coffee and orange juice for breakfast because even the thought of it makes me sick. Cannot drink tea for at least an hour after having eaten veggies. I once had a salad for dinner and drank some tea after dinner and I was sick for hours. Tea with lemon makes me sick and coffee and chocolate means instant diarrhea. The symptoms come very soon after consuming the foods. Sometimes 10 minutes. Worse around period. Not sure if this is connected to endo.

I have gastrointestinal issues and bloating from milk products. Like others have said, I don't know if this is endo related or lactose intolerance, but either way, not eating dairy solves the problem. I did a trial of not eating gluten, but didn't notice any difference one way or the other. In general I feel best and most energetic when I eat healthy and include lots of veggies, but sadly this has not solved my endo pain. I find it frustrating when people make it out like all illness is just the result of bad habits, when I work on eating well and exercise every day and still have stage IV endo. Sorry that's just my own personal frustration--I do believe in healthy eating but don't believe in blaming people for their illnesses.

Hi for me it was aggravating my endo pain and causing bloating and constipation, I went for intolerance testing and eliminated the foods/drinks I was intolerant to (all the good stuff btw), that was 2 years ago. Last year I felt there was something else that wasn't agreeing with me so I did a food diary for 2 weeks and discovered mango (which I love) was the culprit. It's a good thing to do to establish what is causing a problem. x

I do have endometriosis and I knew (before knowing that I had endometriosis) that I was intolerant to milk (all the animal ones). After knowing that I have endometriosis I made a more complex food intolerance test, and again the results were that I have intolerance to all the animal milks, plus some foods containing gluten ... and to the egg white!!! :(

Anyway, I do feel nothing when eating that foods. By my immunologist warned me that they damage myself, specially the dairy foods.
