You need to get a 2nd opinion, I would ask to be referred to someone at an accredited endometriosis centre, there is a list at bsge.org.uk I was told that by one surgeon but then found another very skilled surgeon who said no case is too complicated for him to work on. He also said he can remove some of the old adhesions caused by my previous surgeries (I have had 8) he said excision is the only real way to get rid of endo as laser ablation only gets rid of the surface & it justs comes back. Very few surgeons have the skill to treat advanced complicated endometriosis so it's really important you find someone who specialises in endometriosis. Good luck.

I called my health insurance & they authorised a 2nd opinion but if you don't have insurance then yes you should ask your GP to refer you. An NHS contract for treatment of severe endo in England was brought in in 2013 requiring that all such cases must be dealt with in a BSGE accredited centre and all disease must be excised wherever it may be. Your GP has to refer you to an accredited centre or they are in breach of this contract.

Endometriosis is classified into one of four stages (I-minimal, II-mild, III-moderate, and IV-severe) depending on location, extent, and depth of endometriosis implants; presence and severity of adhesions; and presence and size of ovarian endometriomas. Minimal or mild endometriosis is characterized by superficial implants and mild adhesions. Moderate and severe endometriosis is characterized by chocolate cysts and more severe adhesions. The stage of endometriosis does not correlate with the presence of or severity of symptoms.
