Hi I am a 43 year old woman and after years of period pain eventually was given a scan which showed chronic endometriosis and ovarian cysts. I had surgery in may and they removed 2 cysts, a benign tumour, my left ovary and fallopian tube. I got a hormone injection which will bring on a temporary menopause and am due another one in November which will last 3 months. My doctor says after this has worn off to keep my body period free I would need to get a coil fitted or go on the mini pill. I don't know what would work best. Anyone had experience with either and most importantly did it help?

Been on prostap twice - it did help! First time obviously got worse in the beginning, then it settled down, no periods, less pain! Second time it made me depressed so had to stop it but was half way through the course so it helped with the endo.
I was advised it was a good idea to take it before surgery and also post surgery to calm down new growth for more effective treatment. I'm sure this is the case for you as well.
I went on the pill (microgynon) back to back through my treatment and continued on with it, it basically ensures that what the hormone injection has done is maintained. I didn't have periods for two years (came off pill to ttc). I'd previously tried the coil but it didn't agree with me, though I know it can be very successful for some people.
Hope you start feeling better soon xx
Hi I had Mirena coil for contraception years ago before I had confirmed endo. I didn't have periods for a year which was good but hubby said I was very grumpy! I had it removed when TTC. I am now on progesterone only pill. I have less and lighter periods and less problems from scar Endo but am getting other milder endo symptoms. So yes I would say although not perfect it has slowed things down
Thanks for reply I think I am definitely going to try the pill first and see how I get on.
