Confused.

I'm waiting an appointment to have a laparoscopy after being referred by a fertility consultant. The consultant suggested a laparoscopy due to finding it difficult to conceive and that I also suffer from painful periods. My understanding was it was to rule out endo. I went for my pre assessment and the nurse asked "when were you told you have endo?" I was taken by surprise as I thought it was just a box ticking exercise that the fertility clinic put you through. I'm absolutely petrified of what the out come is going to be and I'm desperately waiting for my appointment. Has anyone been in a similar situation and offer advice?
