My lap scars have just started itching like MAD which I know is normal healing but it is driving me mental. How long does it last and do you think antihistamines would help? Argh I'm scared I'm going to scratch a stitch out ?

I am using bio oil on my vertical abdominal hysterectomy scar and it's stopped it feeling dry or itchy, hope this helps!

I dabbed some gel that is used for relieving the pain when babies are getting their teeth - it numbs their gums. I don't remember the name but I am sure if you ask the pharmacist he/she will know. Later I also religiously rubbed my scars with special scar lotion and that really paid off - the lines are very faint :)

I had my lap done last year, and the weather has been so crazy this past 3 weeks that it is making my scars itch and burn. But for healing purposes, i'd say a good month or so. When the scabs fall off.

I found that reapplying bandages and pulling them off was doing me more harm than good, created a big rash, I got my stitches out in 6 days and they were fine until i put polysporin on them one started to bleed which scared me, so I stayed still the rest of an evening. All is fine and f yes for 2 days I was really itchy but it's passed now. Don't itch them! I found without bandages things improved more quickly, but it's important to keep the stitches dry so I wore them throught the time I had the stitches still in.
