Hi, on waiting list for hysterectomy, keeping my ovaries. Having it done laproscopically. Consultant said recovery time 4 weeks. Just interested in hearing from anyone who's had it done and how long was your recovery time approx. Thanks.

hi I am having mine done a week Monday but not laproscopically I have been told 6 8 weeks . my sister in law had hers done that way and it was more like 6 week s nearly 8 before she was back to work x

I had the same op as you along with a radical excision of my endo done just 3 weeks ago and I am back driving, shopping, hoovering, baking and most stuff really. Just avoiding any thing heavy for a bit longer. Everyone who's had a traditional Hysto is amazed at my recovery and lack of scaring... X good luck.

Hi I have my hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and I know that i not ready to go back to work yet, my pain from the endo is gone but the op pain is still there when I do to much, my doctor has signed me off for 6 weeks but with the possibility of needing 8 weeks. The hysterectomy is the best thing I have ever done feel like a new person

Hello! I had severe endo and before my op was housebound and living on very strong painkillers. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and removal of endo on 6th May this year and I am better than I have been for years. I felt the difference on day 2, I was able to sit down without the feeling of sitting on a spike every time!! The recovery was fast and quite amazing really, I was up and about (slowly of course) but like Mrs HCP I too was making myself busy and driving at 5 weeks. Just make sure that you don't overdo it though after and definitely do not lift anything heavy.

Thankyou all for such positive replies!! I am a nurse, will probaly take 6 weeks off and if I recover sooner that will be a bonus.

It all depends on you aswelll. I had hysterectomy and my mate did at the same time I listened t my body n rested f 4wks just doing odd light bits then gradually introduced other stuff . my friend thought ooh I feel great n over did things from about 2 wks on wards and ended up making her recovery longer as she exhausted herself. If u listen to ur body u will be fine. u may not have the pain etc it the tiredness and lack of energy tht u need t listen to and rest if need be have a nana nap u heal while sleeping. good luck I had hysterectomy (womb cervix n one ovary removed ) march and then had emergency op 3 wks later t remove other ovary.

I am having my laproscopic hysterectomy this Tuesday. I have severe Endo which has given me a 'frozen pelvis' I also have adenomyosis.

My right ovary is being removed but I am keeping my left one.

I was told to allow a two night stay in hospital. I asked about work and I was told I would probably need to be off for three to four weeks.

By what I have read the hardest things about this surgery are the gas pains and the fatigue.
