How dare a doctor laugh at you! Apparently endometriosis can sometimes persist after menopause. Are you on HRT?

"Estrogen fuels the growth of endometriosis, so in theory, dwindling estrogen levels at menopause should lessen the symptoms. But even after periods have ceased, the ovaries continue to produce small amounts of the hormone, so endometriosis may continue to cause trouble." (Harvard Medical School)

Yes of course it can be endo- I would change your GP -either see someone else at the practice, or move to a new medical centre.

Have CA125 blood test - can be done on the NHS or privately for about £25.

A sensible GP would take anyone who reports tummy problems after menopause very seriously.

With increased age there are increased risks for other things besides endo- it sure doesn't rule out endo. You most certainly can have endo problems after meno.

I have just left a long post on the ablation question that partly covers your question. I am 55. Had laparoscopy two wks ago and old endometriosis found + fibroids and a regrown lining despite being declared meopausal age 51. My GP was not interested in my pelvic pain & bleeding - despite 4 yrs of consulting him. He viewed me as a menopausal maniac. I changed GP's & immediately secured a gynae referral from her. Do you have a female GP in your surgery who might be more sympathetic to your needs?

Hi topspara My periods stopped 10 and a half years ago and I am having that horrible telltale pain again. I asked my doctor if it could be endo and was told it cant be because my periods have stopped. I had an internal by another doctor who sent me for a scan urgently this was done on friday, both ways. I'm hoping for my results on Wednesday. Please ask to be referred for a scan for your own peace of mind, if your doctor is unsure of it being endo, and furthermore why did they laugh at you? I truly hope its nothing serious.. ;-( x
