I'm 19 and been suffering with all the symptoms of endo, soon to have a laparoscopy and I'm scared.

I started my periods early (age 12) and have been back and forth to doctors and hospitals with all the symptoms, only getting checked for endo now because my mum saw it on this morning. I am very worried about having the surgery as I hate hospitals and I'm so worried about getting diagnosed with this. I have been suffering so much (and right now) I just need some advice of how people went through this. Thank you x

I had my first laparoscopy at 19. Basically endo is shit. Best thing you can do is get the right pain killers and go ahead with the surgery. It will help. Keep reminding yourself that it's worth it and you will probably only be a day case, you won't be in overnight. The amount of pain you suffer isn't relative to how bad your endo is so you could have a tiny bit, they'll remove it and you could have years off of the pain and suffering. Focus on that. They will put you on the pill or implant or coil to help you from then on. You will recover from the op within 2 weeks. This just means no hoovering or lifting and you get better quite quickly so don't get too upset initially. Don't scare yourself with horror stories every case is different. Best of luck xxx

I have a blog that has all about my journey with Endo, info on Endo, the Endo diet and some recipes and I'm also going to put up a new page soon. It would be easier if you looked on there as to tell my full story would be long but the basic outline is that I had intermittent pain from age 11 until one day I saw casualty which had an Endo story on there. I had my diagnostic lap August 2012 and was told I had mild Endo. I have suffered everyday since as my local gynae botched it up. I am now under a specialist and am having another lap to see where it has spread and if he can remove it. I have tried all different types of contraceptives except mirena and the only one that has worked is the contraceptive patches. I have my next lap on 21st July and perhaps if you get diagnosed then it would be best if you saw an accredited centre specialist as they're the best surgeons for Endo.

I think there are other blogs that are about Endo but they're much older girls whereas I'm 18 and have pretty much started my journey like you. I hope you get some relief and if you have any questions or just want to chat to someone who is of similar age and going through the same then feel free to pm me.

Take care,
