Hi! I can share a bit of information with you as I had my own hysterectomy for endometriosis several years ago. Rather than endometriosis "coming back," many times the issue is that not all of the endo was removed during surgery. When any endo exists, it has potential to cause symptoms if there is any estrogen whether from HRT or other means including the endo making its own estrogen. What makes it complicated for us is that estrogen is important for overall health even though it can also fuel endo. Here is an article specifically about HRT and endometriosis that you might find helpful: hystersisters.com/vb2/artic...

I hope that helps!

Thanks EndoLucy, I found the article interesting because I may be facing a hysterectomy and the more info I get the better prepared I feel. I also had an interesting conversation with a breast specialist a couple of days ago and he said that even after menopause there are still some hormones secreted so breasts still get tender up to age 75 - so I'm guessing these hormones could still interact with the endometriosis that persist after hysterectomy?

Hello Endolucy.

That is a great article... Thank you.

I have adenomyosis and so having my uterus removed will cure me of that problem.

But for the Endo elsewhere I know it will not help me.

I think we should all be given excision surgery at the time if a hysterectomy !

I hope you are feeling well?

Thank you. The website is very helpful.

I am waiting to see the gynae consultant because I think my endo has returned. I had a hyst with ovaries kept because I was very young. Unfortunately the endo came back and I then had to have my ovaries out 8 years ago.

I have been on HRT patches since then.

I had a Hysterectomy due to endo 7 years ago and for the past 2 years have been feeling generally unwell. Burning and pins and needles in my lower back , legs and now feet. I struggle to move when I have been sat for long periods and restless at night as I can't lie on any side for too long. I have been to various different departments at the Hospital and have ended back in gynae. But they are saying it's not endo back and have put me on the pill for 3 months to prove that my symptoms will not change.

I feel like a guinea pig but I am drained from the constant uncertainty.
