I have clinic on Tuesday for first treatm... - Endometriosis UK
I have clinic on Tuesday for first treatment for endo after diagnostic lap. I am torn between depo-p and mirena? Help?!
Oh to add, I don't care about any side effects as I currently have night sweats/constipation/hot flushes/mood swings anyway. I just NEED the pain to stop xx
Hi there, are they not offering you another lap to get rid if all the endo first? Usually when they find endo on a diagnostic lap they do get rid of it time permitting.
The reason I asked is that I had the mirena inserted the same time as they done my lap, consultant said it can be quite uncomfortable having it put in so it's best to do it same time as lap, and also it's best to get rid of the endo first as hopefully the mirena will help prevent the endo from growing back too quickly.
I am afraid I can't give you much feedback on the mirena as I only had it fitted 3 weeks ago but anything is worth a try xxx
I am 3 months in on my depo shot. No real mood swings to write home about. Gained maybe 5 pounds. Day to day pain is down lower, but the period pain is WORSE!!!! This is after my lap was in January and they burned away stage 3 endo and adhesions. I do still bleed for my period and i have near daily spotting (which isn't too annoying). I am going for my second shot here soon, and will discuss the pain with the dr.
Thank you for your replies. They did remove most of the endo because it was up to my right kidney or so the surgeon said when I was in recovery but I am still in the same pain, they said I might be because of the fact my body might continue doing what it's doing and now are going to do something to help stop it after clinic. I had an infection after the lap and my tummy button wound was oozing so I went back and got antibiotics, then again when it didn't stop for more antibiotics and it seemed to clear. Over the last few days, it has been oozing a bit again and I am not going back because I am in clinic anyway on Tuesday but now (and from a post on another convo) I am scared about the infection being what is causing some of my pain...I also have a couple of cysts in my right ovary which the surgeon left because I only have the one ovary left after a cyst got wrapped around my left one in 2005. So they could be causing the pain as well, which again scares me because I've had surgery and I'm still in daily pain...it's been a huge knock to me as the surgery was my beacon of hope and now I still feel awful. Sorry to sound so depressing and thank you so much for your replies ladies xx
I feel to be worse AFTER this surgery and burning then I did before the surgery. Which is very sad. I know exactly what you mean when you said you were hoping it would make you pain free. I wonder if 1. it is the burn marks trying to heal, and 2. if it's tiny endo spots that are new and not big enough to be seen yet.
Don't be sorry, I feel exactly the same I really did think the op would be the answer to everything and an end to constant pain, it really worried me when I still felt so unwell after.
But with me it was to complication after the op, as I mentioned in other posts I ended up back in hospital for 5 days it turned out I had internal bleeding and infection which resulted in severe pain, I had to have antibiotics by iv that's why the long stay in hospital.
Please make sure you get yourself checked over, you might need a stronger dose of antibiotics, you might also find that the pain will very much ease once that is sorted so please don't lose hope, the op might still be very successful xx
I've had co-amoxiclav and metronidazole so far and they made the pain really bad but I did complete them. They sent me for a scan a couple of days ago to check on a collection that was there when I went in with the infection and she said she could see a few bits of fluid floating around so I don't know what that might be, in clinic Tuesday and I'll get them to check it. God, it's a nightmare. Thanks for your help xx
I've been saying to my sister that I probably need IV antibiotics, and I've been being sick etc too so if it is the infection I'll be happier because they can hopefully treat it and I'll be a bit better xx
Thats just terrible I can't believe they let you go without making sure you are fine first, I also had fluid around my right kidney which the doctor said is quite common after an op however it can get infected, please make sure they take you seriously at the clinic, and if you are in a lot of pain take yourself to the nearest A&E Tuesday is far too long to wait if you are hurting and if its an infection it will only get worse.
I hope you feel better soon xx
Sorry meant to add I am on co-amoxiclav 500 but like I said only after 5 days of antibiotics iv in hospital I am also on mefenamic acid for pain and inflammation and tranexamic acid for the bleeding, hope that helps xxx
It took me 2 months of hard work with antibiotics to get rid of belly button wound infection - i popped the glue plug out messing with it- learned a hard lesson. Did not repeat that mistake in any subsequent ops I can tell you.
Keep persevering - the infection can be stubborn but you really will feel much better once it is gone and your body is no longer overloaded fighting on all battle fronts. I agree with others about going to A&E don't let infection get a grip any more than it has already it can be fatal if you get it spread into the blood system. Septicaemia.
A&E docs can prescribe you further antibiotics and you just have to keep on at the drugs and trying different ones to find one that does the trick. I wouldn't recommend you hang about a minute longer than necessary. Best of Luck
Hi, definitely keep pushing for treatment of the infection! I ended up with am abscess which tracked under my abdominal wall and had surgery and 2 weeks of Iv antibiotics and 8 weeks of oral, it really is better to not let it build up! Good luck, feel better soon xxx
Really really grateful for your replies Lilykat, I'm going to clinic tomorrow and shall let you know how I get on. I am still bruised around my tummy and after weeks that isn't good either so I will make sure they know in clinic how dreadful I feel. I can't believe they let me go either but to tell you the truth, I am not surprised after the utter nightmare I have had with the NHS so far....thanks again xxx
